Battle Tag: Presentation

Battlenet

Blizzard brings us the new Battle Tag proposal, for all players on Battle.net, available in the beta of diablo 3.

Quote from: Blizzard (Source)

We are pleased to introduce you to the BattleTag, a new way of identifying and communicating for players on Battle.net; you'll be able to try it out for the first time in the Diablo III beta.

A BattleTag is a unified, player-selected name that will uniquely identify you across the Battle.net network - Blizzard Entertainment games, our websites, and our Community forums. Similar to the real ID system, the BattleTag will provide Battle.net players with a new way to manage public profiles, meet and chat with friends they have met in-game, form groups, and stay connected across multiple games of Blizzard Entertainment.

Although most of these features will be available soonTM, players wishing to choose a BattleTag can now do so through Battle.net Account Management. Keep in mind that several players can choose the same BattleTag, since each one will also receive an identifier that will make it unique. For now, we will be testing some basic in-game functionality (such as in-game chat and friends list) during the next Diablo III beta patch. From now on, players can also use a BattleTag when commenting on the Diablo III and BlizzCon web pages.

In the future, the BattleTag will be integrated into other Blizzard games and services, such as World of Warcraft and StarCraft II (and their respective forums and websites), and in a few months we hope to be able to communicate all the ways in which the BattleTag will help you. to connect and play. Stay tuned to the official Blizzard Community sites for more information.

If you want to know more about the BattleTag, you can take a look at the FAQ below, or go to the Battle.net website to create yours.

(Note to Diablo III beta participants: If you have a Diablo III beta license, you will need to create a BattleTag in order to access the test servers after beta patch 8).

What is Battle.net® battletag?
The BattleTag is a pseudonym chosen by the player that will be used to identify themselves to all Battle.net services, such as Blizzard Entertainment web pages, community forums, and games. Similar to Real ID, the BattleTag will allow players to find and chat with their friends, as well as form friendships, groups, and keep in touch across different Blizzard Entertainment games. The BattleTag also provides a new option for displaying public profiles.

When will the BattleTag be available?
This option will be available to Diablo® III players soon from the game's launch. However, we will do some testing first during the beta version of Diablo III. Later, the BattleTag will be integrated into other Blizzard games and services such as World of Warcraft® and StarCraft® II, but we are unable to provide further information on our plans for this functionality at this time.

Will my BattleTag be unique?
A player's BattleTag is not unique, so you won't have to worry if your preferred name is already in use by another player. You can choose any name you want, as long as it complies with the BattleTag naming policy. Only one BattleTag can be associated with each Battle.net account.

If the BattleTag name is not unique, how do I know if I am adding the correct friend to my friends list?
Each BattleTag automatically receives a 4-digit number, called a BattleTag code. This code is combined with your BattleTag name to obtain a unique identity (for example: Gnomochachi # 3592). The BattleTag name and code are visible when you log into the Battle.net website and the Diablo III beta client, and you can share it with other players who want to add you to their friends list. You can also add your friends through the game (by clicking on a message from them, for example) without having to know their BattleTag code.

Even if I'm not participating in the Diablo III beta, can I choose my BattleTag now?
Undoubtedly. You can choose your BattleTag through the Battle.net Account Management page, regardless of whether you are participating in the Diablo III beta or not. You just have to enter the BattleTag creation page (http://www.battle.net/account/management/battletag-create.html) to start. Make sure that you choose a pseudonym that you will be comfortable with in the long term and that complies with the name selection rules, since you will not be able to change your BattleTag once you have chosen it. We plan to enable a system for players to change their BattleTag in the future, but we are unable to provide further details on this at this time.

Where will my BattleTag appear?
During the Diablo III beta test, your BattleTag will appear in the Diablo III game client (on friends lists and in chat), on the Diablo III forums, and on the Battle.net Account Management page. In the future, it will also be visible in other Blizzard games such as StarCraft II and World of Warcraft, on friends lists, in chat, or by posting messages on the forums associated with these games. More information about how and when the BattleTag will be displayed will be available in the future.

When will it be available in World of Warcraft and StarCraft II?
Our plan is for the BattleTag to be available in all current and future Blizzard games. However, we are currently unable to confirm when the BattleTag system will be integrated into World of Warcraft and StarCraft II.

Do I need to choose my BattleTag now?
You only need to choose your BattleTag now if you want to access the Diablo III beta (as of the next available patch) or use a game-related identity on the Diablo III forums. You can also continue to participate in these forums using the name of a World of Warcraft or StarCraft II character if you wish.

Will I still be able to show my character on my profile or on the Armory page?
Armory profiles will not be affected by the introduction of the BattleTag. We will have more information on integrating this feature into existing games in the near future.

How will these changes affect World of Warcraft?
The BattleTag will add a new communication system to World of Warcraft. For example, you can create friendships and communicate between different kingdoms and games with your BattleTag, similar to how Real ID works today. We will have more information about it when the launch of this new functionality approaches.

Will this affect my current Real ID friends?
No. Your current Real ID friends will not be affected in any way, and all Real ID features and benefits will continue to be available. The BattleTag simply offers players a new tool to connect and communicate between different Blizzard games. For example, if two players are not Real ID friends but want to keep in touch through Battle.net, they can establish a BattleTag friendship; In the future, BattleTag friends will have access to many communication tools (such as cross-game chat) currently available only to Real ID friends.

Will the BattleTag replace Real ID? Will I be able to continue adding new friends via Real ID?
The BattleTag is a new option, completely independent of Real ID. Real ID will continue to work as before, so you can continue adding new friends through this function.

Will this change affect the names of my World of Warcraft or StarCraft II characters in any way?
The names of your World of Warcraft characters will not be affected in any way. We are still in the process of determining the fate of the StarCraft II names once we have integrated the BattleTag names into the game.

How does BattleTag work during the Diablo III beta?
Only some of the BattleTag features will be available during the Diablo III beta test. Initially, players will be able to add a new friend via their BattleTag, although other features may be available throughout the trial version. We will have more information on all the BattleTag features in Diablo III with the launch of the game. To manually add a friend's BattleTag in the Diablo III beta, just type their BattleTag and code (for example, Demon Crusher # 1537) in the "Add Friend" field of the corresponding interface.

It is interesting because this way you don't give your email to be added, you would only give it to trusted people and you would add others by battletag. c:
