Blue Summary: Changes to Dungeon Finder, Dungeon Diary and more

Zarhym was very busy on Friday giving some more information on Patch 4.2. Remember the topics that have been discussed:

In this message, Zarhym tells us about the Dungeon Diary, which we were told at BlizzCon 2010, which will allow us to see the skills, loot and some history about the boss.

If you want to reach the maximum potential of your class, of course, there are many sites that will tell you which are the best talents and choices of attributes to make, spell rotations and abilities, etc. But the information you need to be successful in your role is all really in the game. We've gone a long way to make sure things are clear enough that you can make some characteristic choices to determine your character's power on your own and still have a great chance of achieving what makes you great.

If you are talking about boss encounters, then I think you will be excited about the Dungeon Journal (formerly the Encounter Journal) that you will see in Patch 4.2. Once we are able to catalog more dungeons in our journal, you will have a lot of the essential information for each boss fight. You will only have to discover with your group or band how to deal with those skills when they are used. The Dungeon Journal will also help you find the loot you are looking for from each boss over time so that you have the items you want to get, present before you set foot in the dungeon.

After the jump you have two more messages:

  • Firelands will be far more epic than Trial of the Crusader
  • Raid Finder now focuses on grouping people from the same realm

Do not stop reading!

Firelands will be far more epic than Trial of the Crusader

So folks who haven't yet completed this level of content in normal and heroic mode, why are you concerned that there are only 7 bosses in the next raid level?

Because the other gang that I can remember with so few bosses, and therefore the only thing I can compare it to based on the number of bosses alone is the Trial of the Crusader. Not exactly my favorite. It seemed like an incredibly boring raid level, not even close to the "epicity" of ANY of the other levels with 10+ bosses.

This is not Trial of the Crusader. The place is epic and there is a great deal of progression and fun in 4.2. The current mechanics are pretty incredible, and there are a few surprises players will be able to find in the raid as well. 7 is just a number… I'd bet a finger that this topic won't be a topic of discussion when the patch comes out. It's one of those random things that people grab when they have too much information, only to be distracted by something else random in the next day / week / month.

What Zarhym has said is the closest a Blizzard employee has come to openly admitting that ToC was a real pile of shit. I applaud you, Zarhym

I actually enjoyed the bands in Trial of the Crusader, but we certainly admit that it wasn't the most epic level of bands we've ever released. 😉 We tried a very different format for that band. I think it served its purpose well, but it's no wonder it's not the player's favorite, or the most memorable band. There are things to be said for working in an expansive dungeon with numerous filler enemies and the incredible environments.

Seriously… I can't wait for you to enter the Firelands! I have been given a tour of the venue by members of our meeting design team on more than one occasion. It is truly epic. Really.

Raid Finder now focuses on grouping people from the same realm

Quote from: Zarhym (Source)

Many players have said since the launch of the Dungeon Finder that they liked to be grouped automatically but missed the sense of community when paired up with strangers from other realms that they may never speak to again. This is why we made a small change to the way the dungeon finder sorts through the player quest for dungeons. It was a post-patch notes change.

The Dungeon Finder will attempt to place players from the same kingdom in the same group.
