With the release of Wrath of the Firelands (Patch 4.2), we introduced the World of Warcraft Starter Edition, to replace the previously available free trial. The Starter Edition allows anyone to play for free up to level 20 without the time limit associated with trial accounts. All you need is a Battle.net account and an internet connection. The Starter Edition also opens up access to some new features that were not available in the previous time-limited trial:

  • WoW Starter Edition players can create draenei and blood elf characters, which were previously unavailable for trial accounts.
  • The two starting zones associated with these races are also available for those who want to give the game a try.
  • The gold limit has been increased to 10, allowing Starter Edition players to purchase mounts upon reaching the corresponding tier.

Upon reaching level 20, your characters will no longer accumulate experience. However, you can keep playing and exploring Azeroth for as long as you like, or you can start a new character to test out a new class or race. You can also choose to upgrade to a full paid account at any time and continue your adventures beyond level 20.

With the launch of the Starter Edition, all existing trial accounts have been reactivated, including those that had expired. This means that if you have tried World of Warcraft in the past, the characters in your test account are accessible again.

You may have already seen that as a result of the changes introduced with the World of Warcraft Starter Edition, our program has also been updated Recruit a friend.

Now is a better time than ever to try World of Warcraft. If you are thinking of starting to play World of Warcraft or have a friend interested in joining you in Azeroth, you can try it today easily.
