Changes to Emblems and PvP points in Cataclysm

I clearly remember in one of the question and answer sessions on twitter how Ghostcrawler said that they were not entirely happy with how the emblems had worked throughout Wrath of the Lich King. The truth is that neither do I. We have ended up having many Emblems that we cannot distinguish at all well (at first glance) and then they have become obsolete making it impossible to get more.

Good news! Blizzard, following their lead, has made known the changes they have in mind for Emblems and PvP points. Goodbye Emblems! Hello points !. Yes, yes, you read that right. There will be no more emblems and both PvE and PvP gear will be point-based. There will be 4 types of points that we can earn (two PvE and another two PvP).

Let's see how they are distributed:

  • Hero Points: Low-level PvE gear
  • Valor Points: High-level PvE team
  • Honor Points: Low-level PvP gear
  • Conquest Points: High-level PvP gear

Easy right? Hero Points will be like the current Triumph Emblems while Valor Points will be like the current Frost Emblems and will have a limit on how many you can collect each week.

With those of PvP the simile is even easier. Honor Points are like… well… Honor Points and Conquest Points are like Arena Points. There will also be limits.

Has it occurred to anyone that you can exchange PvE points for PvP points? Blizzard too.

Ahh yes! I almost forgot! Personal indexes will be removed from almost all items, including weapons.

Before you fly into a rage, read the entire Blizzard ad after the jump.

We're continuing to refine the Badge and Emblem system as well as the PvP point system in Cataclysm, and we'd like to share some of those changes with you today. Enjoy them!

When it comes to emblems, our main goal at Cataclysm is to clear up the confusion involved in how these currency systems work. So we're changing the emblems to make them a clearer system, similar to what we've used for a long time for Arenas and Battlegrounds. In Cataclysm there will be a total of four types of points that you can earn, two in PvE and two in PvP, and these will remain the same regardless of whether we add new content.
Here's the breakdown:

PvE

Hero Points - Low-level, easy-to-obtain PvE points; there will be a maximum limit of points that can be obtained but there will be no limit on the speed at which they can be obtained. They can be obtained in most dungeons (such as Emblems of Triumph).

Valor Points - High-level and hard-to-get PvE points; there will be a maximum limit of points they can earn and a maximum limit on the amount they can earn per week. They can be obtained through the daily heroic dungeon of the dungeon finder and through raids (such as Frost Emblems).

PvP

Honor Points - Low-level, easy-to-earn PvP points; there will be a maximum limit of points that can be obtained but there will be no limit on the speed at which they can be obtained. They can be obtained in most PvP activities.

Conquest Points - High-level and hard-to-earn PvP points; there will be a maximum limit of points they can earn and a maximum limit on the amount they can earn per week. They can be earned for each victory on a ranked Battleground or through Arenas (currently called Arena Points).

When we launch a new armor tier or when a new PvP season begins, its high-level points will be converted to lower-level points. For example, if we launch a new tier of raid armor, its Valor Points will be converted to Hero Points; likewise, when a new PvP season begins, your Conquest Points will be converted to Honor Points. Obviously, this means that each time there is a new release, they will start without high-level points and therefore will not be able to accumulate them.

As you may have noticed with Conquest Points, Ranked Battlegrounds and Arenas will share the same point type. Therefore, it will be possible to acquire the best PvP items without having to participate in the Arenas, however, the more powerful weapons will require a greater amount of Conquest Points, so the players who win more games will be able to obtain better weapons. in less time. In addition, we will remove the personal index requirements for almost all items, such as weapons. We may provide some cosmetic or “show-off” items to those with the highest personal ratings. In addition, they will have the opportunity to buy items from the previous season through Honor Points.

We plan to have a method of converting Honor Points (PvP) to Hero Points (PvE) and vice versa, but at a loss; that is, there will be a method to convert them but it will not be in a 1 to 1 ratio, which means they will have fewer points after conversion. However, they will not be able to do this conversion between the high-level points.

The reason we're going to put a cap on how many high-level points you can earn in a week is so that you have enough flexibility to decide how you want to earn your points, without feeling like you have to participate in all the content whenever you are. available; If they earn enough Valor Points through raids, they may not feel the need to use the dungeon finder every night (or ever). In the same way, a PvP player can choose to participate in Qualified Battlegrounds but not participate in the Arenas, or to focus on both and still be able to acquire the points they want.

We know that you will have many questions and doubts, and we will do our best to answer them as soon as possible; so… to discuss it has been said!
