It really comes as no surprise as Blizzard has announced on several occasions that they wanted players to focus on Azeroth so that it felt something alive and not empty as before. Many players might leave their Hearthstones in one of these cities so they can move around the world quickly.
However, I hope they add portals because traveling from Stormwind for example to Darnassus or The Exodus is hard. At least the new zones have portals to and from each faction's capital cities (Orgrimmar and Stormwind).
