Discovering Azeorth: Grizzly Hills

«I started to climb the Howling Fjord, as I was advancing I could realize how the snow was beginning to fill the place, I thought that if I continued north I would end up reaching a completely frozen passage, but to my surprise I saw a beautiful full area of vegetation and fauna where in the distance you could see something like a huge trunk, one of the most incredible areas that I saw in my life, that place became known as The Brown Hills of Northrend »

History of the Brown Hills

Pardas Hills Map

Although the Furbogs claim that they were the first to inhabit these lands, there are other tribes that could be older such as the Drakkari ice trolls and the Thor Modan dwarves. One of the hypotheses is that the dwarves were the first. It is believed that the Titans left them there when they created them, in order to test their survival. And after all they have not only survived but also thrived, spreading south into what would later become known as Kalimdor and the other continents. The dwarves of Thor Modan believe they can find traces of their ancestors in the hills and uncover the secrets their race holds.
Other stories tell that Drakkari trolls built Drak'Tharon's Keep even before the Furbolgs built Brownmaw. The Frostfoot Tribe rallied the polar furbolg tribes and united them to repel the threat of the Drakkari. Both races have a mutual hatred for each other. Although the Furbolgs were more numerous, the Drakkari had a new strength and consequently a better organization, and the trolls have always been more unified than the Furbolgs. The current existence of Brownmaw means that the victory of the Furbolgs over the Drakkari can be decided in a series of skirmishes that would surely end in the defeat of the Drakkari and thus the loss of Dark'Tharon's strength to the Scourge.

Fauna and Flora

Grizzly Hills Vermin

The area is similar to a forest in its winter season, with the exception that the climate here is the same all year round. The trees are tall and robust, generally pine trees that leave the ground covered with needles and leave fresh air throughout the area, the snow keeps the land fresh and clean, and the hills have a good elevation without being excessive which makes it can be easily accessed without resorting to climbing equipment.
Almost the entire area is covered by a river and its tributaries, formed by the unevenness that can be seen in some areas of the area, this supplies the animals of the place since it has a very good condition that can be appreciated just by seeing how crystal clear is the water.
The wild animals; like deer, bears, eagles, wolves, and even horses, they roam the hills, providing lots of meat, fur, and entertainment.

In short, a very varied area, beautiful but at the same time wild and natural.

What can we find

faucet

View of Brownmaw

Colinas Pardas is home to the polar Furbolgs known as the Jaw Maw, a name that also defines its capital and main location in the area with about 20.000 Furbolgs living inside. At the heart of this wild frontier lies Brownmaw, the ancient home of the Furbolgs. For generations, the Furbolg tribes have worshiped a colossal prehistoric bear that roams the surrounding wilderness.

Aside from the Furbolgs, which dominate the region, it is possible to find the Thor Modan metal dwarf excavation to the northeast, it is also possible to find the goblins of Ventura and Co. in Ventura Bay bathing the southwestern shores. Although Furbolgs have grown accustomed to living in relative peace, recent raids have forced ancient tribes into combat.

The trappers are encroaching on the hunting grounds of the Furbolgs and the goblin company Ventura & Co. A large-scale deforestation operation has begun in the region, however, despite the trappers and goblins, the most imminent threat comes from the north, where multitudes of Drakkari ice trolls have begun to emerge from their refuge in the Drak'Tharon Fortress - But it's not the only thing the forests threaten, Archmage Arugal has been resurrected by Arthas and now leads an army of Worgens from Bloodmoon Island, a lonely island to the east.

On the other hand, it is said that a Ancient God has started corrupting some Furbolgs, making them go berserk.

Curiosities

Private Jansen and Private Cejade

One of the most curious things that we find here is the old Blanchy, a mare that is in other areas of the wow such as the Old Hillsbrad slopes (where she appears as young Blanchy) or in Páramos del Poniente (where she appears dead after the third expansion). On this occasion we can see her with the soldier Cejade, the son of the farmer Cejade and Verna Cejade, who are the owners of the old Blanchy. On the other hand, the soldier Cejade holds the stew of the Páramos de Poniente de Verna, a stew that has been made by his mother, a recipe that we can obtain if we do the mission in Páramos del Poniente. If you hang around for a while you can see a discussion between Private Cejade and Private Jansen about the same stew that ends up in a fight between them.

Apart from the old Blanchy we can also find Harrison Jones to the east of the place, in a series of missions over catacombs of trolls.

Another curiosity is that if you deactivate the music options and put the sound to maximum you can sometimes hear a sound similar to a rogue using stealth or a slight growl, but if you look around there will be nothing which is something quite strange that does not have much Explanation.

Finally for those who usually deactivate the sound in game; Brown Hills has one of the most beautiful settings in the game, including both the scenery and the music. The most notorious clue to this place is Totems of the Grizzlemaw a piece that fits perfectly with the area.
