Engineering is a profession that adds a fun component as many of the recipes have certain unexpected effects. It is one of the most expensive professions to climb and, in a way, the least profitable one although it has unique things like Chopper by mekiengineer, jeeves or the Turbocharged Flying Machine.
This profession, like Jewelry y Ironworks., it complements well with Mining Although you will need some materials from other professions that you will have to acquire at the Auction if you do not have any friends who can help you.
