You are not prepared! Illidan Stormrage is one of the most important characters in World of Warcraft. Twin brother of Malfurion Stormrage, he is the complete opposite of his brother although the two have something in common, they are in love with the Priestess of the Moon, Tyrande.

Illidan in the War of the Ancients

To understand Illidan's history we have to go back to the War of the Ancients, where Illidan, servant of Queen Azshara and great wizard, turned his back on his queen upon discovering her betrayal but when his brother revealed the plan to destroy the Well of Eternity to defeat his enemies Illidan refused as the Well was the source of all magic. The elf began to be drawn to the powers of the Burning Legion and the satyr Xavius ​​began to persuade him to seek the powers of the Legion. In this part of the story, it was when Illidan defeated Azzinoth and obtained his weapons, the Warglaives of Azzinoth.

Illidan devised a plan to defeat the Burning Legion, seize the Demon Soul created by Deathwing. He feigned an alliance of convenience with Azshara and Mannoroth. Illidan was brought in front of Sargeras himself, who gouged out his eyes and placed two orbs of fire vision that allowed him to see all the magic in the world. After the final battle, Illidan, who at some point in the battle had taken seven vials of water from the Well of Eternity, created a new one deep within Mount Hyjal. His brother Malfurion, horrified by the path his brother had taken, locked him deep in Mount Hyjal, becoming Illidan the Traitor.

Release

After 10.000 years incarcerated, Tyrande released Illidan in the hope that he could help in the battle against the Burning Legion, although Malfurion disapproved of it. Illidan, eager to show his brother that he had changed and no demonic force was dominating him, vowed that he would drive out the Burning Legion.

Illidan confronted Arthas on Felwood. Arthas, seeing that the forces were equal, told Illidan about the skull of Gul'dan, an artifact that would grant its wielder great power and that by destroying it, the corruption of the forest would end. Illidan set out in search of the artifact although he paid a great price to obtain it, Illidan had been transformed into a demon. With the power of the skull, I defeat Dreadlord Tichondrius. Embarrassed, Malfurion and Tyrande disavowed Illidan, and Illidan finally learned that he would never obtain his brother's forgiveness.

Illidan in the service of the Burning Legion

Kil'jaeden contacted Illidan offering him the mission to defeat the Exanime King, Ner'zhul, who had accumulated too much power and the Legion lord could not control him. Illidan allied himself with the naga, ancient night elves in Aszhara's service, and began to battle the plague of undead. Guardian Maiev Shadowsong as she tried to hunt down the traitor. After several battles chasing Arthas, he met Malfurion who told him that Tyrande had died, Illidan incredulous, set out in search of her and when he managed to save her, Malfurion and Tyrande allowed him to leave by promising never to have a relationship with the Elves of the night.

Illidan fled Azeroth to hide from the wrath of Kil'jaeden towards Outland, once Draenor, the homeland of the orcs. There he forged an alliance with Akuma and his tribe, although Maiev Shadowsong hunted him down and captured him. What was Illidan's surprise when Kael'thas and Vashj rescued him and defeated the guardian.

The attack on Northrend

After all prognosis, Kil'Jaeden found Illidan in Outland and the Traitor told him that he had been gathering an army to march on Icecrown. Illidan besieged Northrend and Ner'zhul, fearful of defeat, summoned Arthas to Icecrown. Finding him about to merge with Ner'zhul, they plotted a bloody battle in which Arthas emerged victorious. Kael'thas and Vashj collected Illidan and departed for Outland.

Illidan, Lord of Outland

Following the events in Northrend, Illidan knows that Kil'Jaeden's wrath will fall upon him in fury and rage, so he fortified himself in Outland, in the Black Temple. His reign lasted what a group of adventurers took to besiege and defeat him along with Akama, freeing Maiev, who remained a prisoner in the Black Temple. After his defeat, Maiev takes him away, fulfilling her duty as Guardian and ending the Traitor's story… for now.
