Zone Study: Boreal Tundra

Everything you need to know about Boreal Tundra you already have here, missions, achievements, flight points, data of interest.

The vast Boreal Tundra lies in the far southwest corner of Northrend, the icy continent also called "the roof of the world." In recent months, the Horde has established a commanding presence there, as the young and daringly aggressive Garrosh Hellscream has founded Warsong Hold, a stoic fortress of orcs.

Shortly after arriving, the Horde met the Tuskarr, a race of nomadic walrus-like fishermen. Since then, both groups have united and the Horde has vowed to help their new allies in any way possible. Garrosh and his orc forces have also discovered the enigmatic taunka, an ancient offshoot of the tauren race believed to be lost forever.

Beyond the West Fault Valley that separates the tundra from the Gelidar mountain region, explorers have recently witnessed an increase in activity in a magical place known as The Nexus. Sheltered by the Gelidar Valley, The Nexus is made up of a column of magical energy, surrounded by levitated earth-covered rings. This ancient place was created by the Blue Flight and many adventurers attribute the intensification of activity to the resurgence of the blue-looking dragon Malygos. The inhabitants of the region have also noticed an increase in tension between members of the Blue Flight, especially when it comes to the use of magic.

The Alliance also has a small representation there, and while both factions prepare to launch an offensive against the Lich King and his undead armies, they will first have to deal with a more immediate threat: the naga. The sinister Serpentine race is using gigantic generators to melt the glaciers and ice around them, threatening to flood the entire region.

The Horde and the Alliance have traveled far and wide to reach Northrend. But for these intrepid pioneers the real challenges are yet to come.

History

tusk_concept_art

The Boreal Tundra is located at the western tip of Northrend and is home to the Tusk, the Drakkari Troll, and the Dragons of Blue Flight. The undead and the Nagas they also occupy the area. The Tusk capital, Kaskala, is under constant siege and its inhabitants have had to leave for Unu'pe. We can find Nagas and Kvaldir in the Ruins of Tralladon. Coldarra Island lies further west and is home to Malygos.

Much of the Tundra is waste ice. Without a doubt the Tusk are the most predominant race in this area. However, they prefer to stay close to their villages and one can be traveling for days through the Tundra without seeing any other living creatures.
This breed is primarily concerned with fishing, whaling, and protecting their villages. The Tusks defend themselves well against the starving Drakkari and will even fight the Nerubians; They are undoubtedly formidable enemies but they will never attack anyone without good reason.
Drakkari roam the tundra but in negligible numbers, alone or in small groups. They have no city in the Tundra although they do have some camps. Neither is big enough to have a name. From time to time they set out to harass the peaceful Colmillar.
Nerubians roam the tundra as well but only in small groups.
Blue Coldarra dragons can sometimes be seen flying over the tundra. The Nagas live near the southern tip, in the Tralladon Ruins.

Tundra Boreal has a great coastline which makes it difficult to defend. The Tusks like it precisely because of that, because of its coastline and on the other hand the Naga like the Tralladon ruins since it provides them with a view of anyone who approaches in the ocean.

These ruins, which we can find in the southwest of the Boreal Tundra, are the ruins of what appears to be an ancient city of the night elves or high elves. There is an altar that appears to be from the Temple of the Moon but has a statue of Queen Azshara on it. Raj Naz'jan was its emperor more than 500 years ago. Recently, the Skadir killed most of the naga (leaving only Veehja) and took the ruins for themselves, using them as a basis for attacks on the Boreal Tundra. The Skadir's plans are to revive Leviroth.

The oldest village in Kaskala is a few centuries old and the rest began to grow around it as families split up to create their own (albeit smaller) families. The Drakkari are by far the newest guests and do not have a fixed settlement.
The plague rarely appears and its agents do not stay longer than it takes them to carry out their control route in search of potential dangers and, of course, new recruits.

During Wrath of the Lich King, the horde has established a settlement known as Warsong Hold under the steely leadership of Grom's son, Garrosh Hellscream. The Horde has made a pact with the local Tusk who are under siege by the Nagas of the Tralladon Ruins. These Nagas have attempted to use their generators to melt the surrounding ice caps (though these plans have been thwarted by the Kvaldir, a clan of Vrykuls who also besiege the Tusk). Garrosh and his army have discovered the enigmatic Taunka, a subspecies of the Tauren race that was believed to be extinct.

The Boreal Tundra is huge, cold, and desert. Landscapes vary in quantity. From cliffs to grasslands to steam pools. Without a doubt, the east is the most arid area since it is covered by snow.

To the northwest, one can see gelidar. It is high enough to always be covered in snow. Geologists in the area are concerned as some faults are emerging that could mean a major earthquake that will push it away. This would affect the stability of the Boreal Tundra and even Northrend itself.
