Kel'Thuzad has been one of the main agents of the Lich King and he is responsible for spreading the plague throughout Lordaeron. After being defeated by Arthas during the Third War, he resurfaced as a Lich after his remains were deposited in the Fountain of the Sun by ... the same one who ended his life: Arthas, after his transformation into a Death Knight.

Kel'Thuzad assisted Arthas in summoning Archimonde the Corruptor, commander of the Burning Legion. However, Kel'Thuzad serves the wishes of the Lich King and not the Burning Legion.

During the events of The Frozen Throne, Arthas leaves Kel'Thuzad in Lordaeron to command the Scourge forces. This Lich, one of Arthas's chief commanders, leads the Scourge hosts from naxxramas, its Necropolis. Though once resting upon the Plaguelands above Stratholme, Naxxramas has been placed upon the Dragonblight in Northrend to serve the wishes of the Lich King.

During the short period before the Second War, Kel'Thuzad was a member of the Council of six, the highest instance in the Kirin Tor, the masters of Dalaran. Of these six masters, Kel'Thuzad was the most eager to gain access to the Guardian's Library, the source of knowledge Medivh treasured in his tower in Karazhan. He was also the one who infuriated the most when this library was lost.

After the death of MedivhKel'Thuzad and other Kirin Tor officials questioned Medivh's apprentice Khadgar about what had happened; Kel'Thuzad was particularly interested in discovering more about the mysterious Order of Tirisfal that surrounded the mysterious guardian Medivh.

Call of the Lich King

Some powerful people, scattered around the world, they heard the mental call of the Lich King from Northrend. Without a doubt the most notable was Archmage Kel'Thuzad of the magical city of Dalaran. The young Archmage had been one of the officers of the Kirin Tor, the rulers of Dalaran, and was always regarded as a revolutionary due to his insistence on the study of the forbidden arts of necromancy.

He was led to learn all he could about the wizarding world and its dark secrets but was soon frustrated. Once you heard the powerful call From Northrend, the Archmage focused all his efforts on communicating with the mysterious voice. Convinced that the Kirin Tor was too cautious to harness the power and knowledge inherent in the dark arts, he vowed to learn all he could about the immense power that resided under the name of Lich king.

Abandoning his great fortune and political prestige, Kel'Thuzad left the path of the Kirin Tor and left Dalaran forever. Pushed by the insistent voice in his mind, he sold all his possessions to travel alone both by sea and by land to reach the frozen coast of Northrend.

His intention was to reach Icecrown to offer his services to the Lich King. The archmage traversed the ruins of Azjol Nerub and was soon impressed by the scope and ferocity of Ner'zhul's power and began to believe that allying himself with the mysterious Lich King would not only be wise but would also be very profitable.
After months of traveling over the arid arctic wastelands of Northrend, Kel'Thuzad finally reached the glacier of Ice crown. He bravely advanced toward the dark citadel of Ner'zhul and was truly astonished when the silent undead guardians allowed him to pass.

The Archmage descended into the depths of the cold earth, reaching the bottom of the glacier. Within the cavern of ice and shadow, Kel'Thuzad prostrated himself before the Frozen Throne and offered his soul to the Dark Lord of Death.

The Lich King was very happy with his latest recruit. He promised Kel'Thuzad immortality and immense power in exchange for your loyalty and obedience. Kel'Thuzad, eager for dark knowledge and opder, accepted his first great mission: to enter the world of men and found a new religion that worshiped the Lich King as God.

To aid the Archmage on his mission, Ner'zhul left the humanity of Kel'Thuzad intact. The wizard, still charismatic though advanced in years, was ordered to use his powers of illusion and persuasion to cajole the oppressed and disenfranchised masses of Lordaeron to believe in him. Once he had their attention, he would offer them a new vision of what society should be like and a new figure to call king.

Cult of the Damned

Kel'Thuzad returned to Lordaeron in disguise and, for 3 years, used his fortune and intelligence to recruit men and women and create a brotherhood. This brotherhood, known as the Cult of the Damned, promised his acolytes social equality and eternal life in exchange for service and obedience to Ner'zhul.

As the months passed, the Lich King's agent found many enthusiastic volunteers for his new cult among the weary peasants in Lordaeron. Kel'Thuzad was very surprised by the ease with which the citizens abandoned faith in the Holy Light and embraced the dark shadow of Ner'Zhul. As the Cult of the Damned grew in size and influence, Kel'Thuzad made sure to keep his work secret from the authorities of Lordaeron.

Compendium of the Fallen

With Kel'Thuzad's great success in Lordaeron, the Lich King made final preparations to storm human civilization. They placed the energies of the Scourge into a number of portable artifacts known as Cauldrons of Plague that Ner'zhul ordered Kel'Thuzad to transport Lordaeron where they would be hidden by various cultists.
These cauldrons would act as generators of plague, spreading their power over the farms and cities of northern Lordaeron.

The Lich King's plans worked perfectly and many citizens of the northern villages of Lordaeron were contaminated almost instantly. As in Northrend, citizens who were infected died and resurfaced as slaves to the Lich King. Kel'Thuzad's cultists craved death so they could rise again in the service of their Dark Lord.

As the plague spread, northern Lordaeron filled with brutal and brainless zombies. Kel'Thuzad named the growing army of the Lich King as Plague, who would be in charge of sweeping humanity from the face of Azeroth.

The War of the Undead

Kel'Thuzad, under the orders of the Lich King, oversaw the infection of the small town of Brill where he was discovered by Jaina and Prince Arthas. He fled but was pursued to Andhoral where he spoke to Arthas of Mal'ganis in Stratholme.

Arthas, already beside himself, finished off Kel'Thuzad. Arthas didn't know how little his death would mean, it had all just begun.

After Arthas traveled to Northrend and defeated Mal'ganis with Frostmourne, returned to Lordaeron and betrayed his kingdom by becoming a servant of the Lich King.
Kel'Thuzad began to appear to him as a ghostly apparition behind his protector, Gavinrad. In the apparitions, Kel'Thuzad told Arthas not to trust the Dreadlords, explaining that they were the Lich King's jailers and promised to explain to Arthas all of the Lich King's plans once he walked the earth in Quel 'again. Thalas.

Kel'Thuzad watched Arthas as he made his slow advance toward the Sunwell in Silvermoon against the hosts of Sylvanas Windrunner. Arthas razed the 2 elven gates besieging Silvermoon making his way to the Sunwell.

Once there, he placed Kel'Thuzad's remains in the fountain and, with the help of Tichondrius, Kel'Thuzad was reborn in the terrifying form of a Lich.

As they traveled to Alterac, Kel'Thuzad explained to Arthas that the plague was the forerunner of the Burning Legion and that he should summon the Demon Commander, the Warlock Eredar Archimonde to the mortal world. After killing the orcs guarding the Demon Gate, the lich contacted the Dark Lord. Archimonde told him that he must travel to Dalaran and steal the Book of Medivh.

Contact with Archimonde

After Arthas commanded the attack on Dalaran and assassinated Antonidas, the Guardian's Book was recovered and Kel'Thuzad began the long process of summoning as Arthas defended it from the attackers from Dalaran and the Kirin Tor. When the ritual was completed, Archimonde entered the portal and began to act according to his plans. His first act was to promote Tichondrius as Scourge commander, relegating Arthas and Kel'Thuzad to the background. Yet Kel'Thuzad, confident in the great designs of the Lich King, disappeared amid the chaos and destruction of Dalaran. I had other plans ...

After the war

Kel'Thuzad resurfaced in the aftermath of the invasion and remained in the Capital as one of the Lich King's Lieutenants. Arthas had departed for Kalimdor under Ner'zhul's orders to search for the demon hunter, Illidan, leaving only Kel'Thuzad and Sylvanas Windrunner in his place. However, they both knew that the Legion had been defeated long before the Dreadlords were defeated.

Arthas returned in a rage and sought out the Dreadlords to finish them off. Once the Legion generals had left, they returned to the escaping human villages to the mountain passes. Kel'Thuzad thought that perhaps they might be an acceptable sacrifice to the Lich King. As they passed through the human forces, Arthas suffered some violent attacks and Kel'Thuzad considered calling his forces to retreat but Arthas prevented him and they continued with their macabre mission.

During the fight, Arthas received a vision from Ner'zhul ordering him to return to Northrend. The Lich immediately prepared their march but were ambushed by the Dreadlords and were separated. The hosts of the Dreadlords charged at Arthas.

Kel'Thuzad managed to arrive in time to lift Arthas from the clutches of Sylvanas and her Banshees. She was about to attack when Kel'Thuzad unleashed his forces against her and her sisters. With the banshees dead, Sylvanas was forced back. It was then that Arthas was escorted to shore by Kel'Thuzad where they prepared a fleet of ships for his journey. Arthas asked Kel'Thuzad and his best servant and friend to remain in Lordaeron to ensure that his legacy remained. Kel'Thuzad swore by what little he had to live that he would complete that mission no matter what.

In the successive battles between Sylvanas and the Dreadlords, Kel'Thuzad concealed his forces in preparation for his resurgence in the new powers of the Plaguelands. It was established in the Necropolis of Naxxramas floating above these lands.

Although Kel'Thuzad has been defeated by groups of brave and brave adventurers, his soul remains in the phylactery that is part of his body. If the phylactery were destroyed with him, Kel'Thuzad would be defeated forever but some things don't happen the way they should.

Commander Eligor Albar: "The Lich, Kel'Thuzad. He Serves the Lich King without question, a necromancer of great skill in life, he became a master of necromancy after his death. He is said to be the most loyal servant of the Lich King. Kel'Thuzad has passed tests that should have shattered the souls of even the greatest of the Brotherhood. He lost his life under the hand of Arthas only to return later to the power of the Sunwell.
In the Plaguelands, Kel'Thuzad was once again defeated by Agents of the Argent Dawn. However, his phylactery led to a fake Brotherhood agent. We have yet to find out who stole his phylactery or why.

Naxxramas, now located in the Dragonblight, once again serves as a dwelling place for Kel'Thuzad. Father Montoy, in charge of collecting the phylactery, did not hand it over to Argent Dawn, allowing Kel'Thuzad to regain his corporeal form.

It is rumored that Montoy was rewarded for his efforts and is now turned into a Lich known as Thel'zan the Duskbringer who hides in a Mausoleum under Wintergarde Fortress, currently under siege by Naxxramas, in the Dragonblight.
