Warlords of Draenor a year later - Opinion

warlords of draenor one year later

Welcome to this, my personal reflection, of the passage through Warlords of Draenor a year later, the fifth expansion of World of Warcratf.

We began our adventure in Warlords of Draenor on November 14, 2014, a year later, the situation we find ourselves is what you expected? It's always best to start at the beginning, so let's get started.

Warlords of Draenor a year later

Back in November 2013, during Blizzcon, they announced the new Warlords of Draenor expansion. What a thrill while we watched the Trailer. A savage world, the Iron Horde a formidable enemy, relive the past again ... and perhaps change history.

When the past and the present collide ... the destiny of all worlds is at stake

As time went by - very slowly - we were inundated with publicity and events related to Warlords of Draenor, who does not remember the taxi split in two by a giant Howl at Time Scuer?

As far as my memory reaches it has been the expansion with the most publicity so far and with a great result since the expectation was, worth the redundancy, spectacular. The entire pre-expansion marketing campaign was so effective that World of Warcraft surpassed 10 million subscriptions. We were able to enjoy the series «Lords of War», fantastic series of five chapters in which they present the history of Kargath, Grommash, Durotan, Kilrrog and Maraad.

On October 15, 2014, we received the pre-expansion patch, giving us access to try out the new Mythic mode, character reshuffles, and introductory missions in the Blasted Lands.

Finally! November 14, 2014 How nervous! I even asked for a few days off from work. Like everyone I suppose, I began this expansion to the fullest, with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. Many old friends and acquaintances had returned to the game after the hiatus of the last few months of Mist of Pandaria. On the servers there was a queue to enter and despite having played the beta in summer, it was all new when shared with the brotherhood.

We start with the Dark Portal event, a fantastic chain of missions in my opinion to introduce us to the history of Warlords of Draenor and introduce us to the characters that will accompany us throughout the rest of the expansion.

From here the factions separate, we dock in a spectacular way, the Alliance in Shadowmoon Valley and the Horde in Frostfire Ridge. Both areas have a very rich history, accompanied by exciting cinematics. Although you are staunch followers of a single faction, I recommend playing the starting area of the opposite faction, it is worth it.

Valley shadowmoon

Frostfire Ridge

The leveo was very satisfactory, many story missions with their end-of-plot cinematics for each map, accompanied by legendary characters and with experience bonus areas so as not to slow down the rate of climb, until finally reaching Nagrand. There we reach level 100 and see how Thrall puts an end to the only loose end that we had left of Mist of Pandaria, impressive cinematic again.

Once we reach the maximum level we have the new Warlords dungeons at our disposal, in general I liked them with their different dynamics but as always, they stopped being important after acquiring the minimum level required to start with the bands.

We entered Highmaul, in order to destroy the Ogres, allies of the Iron Horde, and from here on, the feeling of threat from the great enemy that awaited us in this hostile land ended. We will only see Orcs of the Iron Horde again in the invasions of our Citadels.

What to say about the Citadels, the truth was at first was very good, we had many things to do daily and the professions rose very easily, but of course, it was time to upload the odd alter and with their respective Citadels the work began to accumulate. Not to mention the Legendary quest, I have personally loved walking the path alongside Khadgar in search of Gul'dan. The little lore that we can enjoy beyond level 100 is focused on the chain of missions of the Legendary Ring, so, since we do not enjoy the missions.

Once we finish off The Imperator Mar'gok, our next point of attack centers on the Blackrock Foundry. This Foundry directed by Black Fist, is in charge of manufacturing and distributing all the weapons for the Iron Horde, so it becomes our priority. Of course we are great heroes of Azeroth and we managed to bring down Blackhand and thwart his plans.

By now in the movie three of the Warlords have fallen, and we know that Grommahs is hiding in the Tanaan Jungle alongside what's left of the Iron Horde, so we head to her. We all expected Grommash to be the bad ending, but suddenly Blizzard decides to turn the story around. Gul'dan manages to subdue Grommash and imprison him in his own Citadel, only now it is turned into Hellfire.

Bent on pursuing the Burning Legion's plans, Gul'dan has taken command of what remains of the Iron Horde, once again dominating the Orcs through demon blood. From this point on we forget about the Iron Horde as our enemy and the theme changes to Burning Legion, something I think dislodged us all.

Blizzard introduces a significant change in lore to explain Archimonde's return as the final boss of the expansion, when a demon dies, he retreats to the Twisting Nether. There is only one Void and one Burning Legion for all worlds and their respective timelines. From the Twisting Nether a demon can be summoned back to any world. … And voilà! Archimonde has returned.

On the same day that patch 6.2 was released, the final cinematic was leaked, making it clear that it would also be the last bandaged patch and the end of the expansion's story. This personally horrified me, in fact I even got quite upset. On the one hand the total loss of grace to complete a content of which you already know the end, and on the other hand the end itself.

We will never be slaves, we will be conquerors ... of what? If my memory serves me, they did not conquer a single territory, we are not talking about how they could carry out the invasion, it is clear that we were going to prevent it, but we. We should have been the ones to foil Grommash's plans, yet it is Gul'dan who takes this honor. I suppose the logic of 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' applies here, but it's still poor, very poor the end of the Warlords of Draenor story. Have you forgiven Grommash? We have lost a lot on the way to fight him, that he helps us defeat Archimonde is not enough for his redemption, at least for me. Also if we get literal in the match against Archimonde it does not appear in the recount 😛

Draenor is free and everyone to dance! It doesn't seem epic enough to me. Look at Mist of Pandaria, it may not be the best expansion in history, but as regards the lore, it is a thousand times better spun, both the content itself and the end, which in addition to being fair, fits perfectly to link Warlords .

However at the end of Warlords we defeated Archimonde, who appears without any logic or explanation, if you think I'm wrong on this point please correct me. I would love someone to explain to me for what purpose or explanation Archimonde appears. Returning, we defeated him, not without difficulty since many top players have described him as the most difficult final boss in history, however, with his last breath he throws Gul'dan through the portal because he himself entered.

And so far the history of Warlords of Draenor, it is true that the end may be justified to link with Legion. Before the announcement of the expansion we were speculating on where Gul'dan would have gone, now we know what the deal was, the invasion of Azeroth by the Burning Legion.

Warlords of Draenor a year later, on balance, I am a loving World of Warcraft gamer so I won't be too harsh. It has had many good things, it kept us expectant until its launch, it moved us, it allowed us to see legendary characters who had died in our timeline; we recover one of the best villains in history Gul'dan, who will also continue with us in Legion and we hope that he finally has his epic and deserved death.

It attracted several million players during its first few months, the same players I suppose, who have left in the last few months. It is about to turn one year old and for me, it is long enough, unfortunately, we still have a long time before Legion arrives, or failing that, at least the Beta.

This expansion is already expired, right now we have nothing left to do but complete missions of ships and followers and finish the advance in Hellfire Citadel if we have not already achieved it. As far as we know there will be no more patches or content in Warlords of Draenor, this leaves us a negative balance in the number of bands and new areas compared to any other expansion with which we want to compare it.

Blizzard "promised" not to repeat what happened in Mist of Pandaria with Siege of Orgrimmar, you are still on time Blizzard, we hope you keep your word.

I totally agree with you, I just don't agree with you that you don't want to be too harsh, you have to be. I have also been playing this game for many years and it must be said clearly that this expansion has been a € 40 patch (more expensive for some like me who always buy the collector), it could have been one of the best and most epic expansions but Blizzard I do not know what has done that has thrown everything away, especially the Lore and I already said it when I saw the trailer, wanting to put an alternative past and that now it turns out that the legion is unique for all universes ... I think they have shitted the lore loudly.

Well, I stopped playing just before they announced WoD for economic reasons, and to tell the truth I felt the concept of expansion too forced, in addition to that when I was able to pay it it became much more expensive and my friends who stayed playing gave criticism very demotivating about it.
I remember that when we discussed whether or not to play WoD with another friend, we had agreed that when WoD was about to end, we would buy the expansion and play it for the Lore ... A month later the patch with the cinematic of the end comes out and we took off the you win ... It's a shame.

Currently, I am very hooked on FFXIV, and sometimes I miss WoW (mostly for pvp) But the great barrier I have is paying for the expansion, and then sustaining the monthly payment ... And sustaining two sets of monthly payment is complicated.

But your last line leaves me wondering. What is the happy mistake that was made in MoP at the time of Siege of Orgrimmar? I think I missed something there but I don't know what it would have been.

Siege of Orgrimmar lasted over a year, Blizzard said it would not fall into that mistake again 🙂

Icecrown Citadel lasted a year, Dragon Soul lasted 10 or 11 months, Siege of Orgrimmar lasted 13 months, Blizzard has been saying that it will not fall into that error for 6 years, the error is to continue believing them 😛

They screwed up putting the dimoños, it was completely unnecessary I wanted my wipe against grommash ... Not against a resurrected eredar so that the witches have one more shitty tier for their collection
