Changes for the Monk in Legion - Advances

monk in legion

Welcome to the Legion class preview. In these articles we will post the changes that will be applied to classes in the next expansion. We start with the Monk in Legion.

Monk in Legion

The Monk is the latest class added to World of Warcraft. In battle, use martial arts, the powers of the mist, and the help of their concoctions to play all 3 roles.

His fighting style is deeply rooted in his Mist of Pandaria expansion and the ideals his lore represents. The Monk in Legion will continue to retain his essence. Blizzard aims to ensure that the monk's abilities and gameplay better fit the background of this class so that it is more faithful to its past and has a unique style across its three specs.

Brewmaster

According to Blizzard, the Brewmaster Monk is not well suited to his role. Currently it works with absorbs and self-healing when the original idea was an agile character who evades blows with his techniques and martial arts, and helps to withstand damage with very strong concoctions.

The monk in legion pretends to be more faithful to his original style. To do this, Chi has been removed and charges have been added to the concoctions, in addition to the modification of skills and gameplay.

These are some of the changes that await us in legion:

  • Ironskin Brew -> Increases the amount of Stagger by 60% for 6 seconds. Share their charges with Cleansing Brew.
    • Instant, 20 second recharge, 3 charges.
  • Purifying Brew -> Remove all deferred damage instantly. Share the charges with Ironskin Brew.
    • Instant, 20 second recharge, 3 charges.
  • Ox offering -> Passive ability.
    • Taking damage has a chance to summon a Healing Sphere. Stepping over this sphere will heal you for 25% of your maximum health. The less life you have, the more likely you are to summon a sphere.
  • Mastery: Elusive Fighter -> For each hit received, your Dodge chance increases by 20%. Resets on successful dodge.
    • Increase your attack power by 20% (with the Mastery of a medium-level team).
  • Barrel Slam -> Deals heavy physical damage to all enemies within 8 yards and slows movement speed by 50% for 15 seconds.
    • 40 energy, 15 meters, instant, 8 second cooldown.
    • Also reduces the remaining cooldown of your Brews by 4 seconds.
  • Tiger palm -> Deals little damage. Reduces the cooldown of your Brews by 1 second.
    • 50 Energy, Melee, Instant.
  • Dark strike -> Deal moderate physical damage with your weapon.
    • Melee, Instant, 3 second cooldown.
    • Shares cooldown with Breath of Fire.
  • Fire breath -> Deals low Fire damage. If enemies are affected by Barrel Slam they will burn themselves taking minor Fire damage over 8 seconds.
    • Instant, 3 second cooldown.
    • Shares cooldown with Dark Kick.

Exclusive Brewmaster Monk talents will also be added.

  • Elusive dance -> Passive talent.
    • Purifying Brew grants up to 15% additional Dodge for 6 seconds, based on the purified level of Stagger damage.

Mist weaver

Many changes await the monk in legion. In the case of the mist weaver, they intend to redesign it, emphasizing its healing dynamics. The objective is that you can use the abilities you want instead of using some abilities to access others.

To achieve this, they have redesigned Renewing Mist and replaced the Inspire skill with 2 new skills; Vivify and Source of Essence. The reason: to have more direct control.

They have also decided that this specialization focuses only on healing, instead of hitting and healing. Finally, the Chi resource is removed, so they will only use mana.

Let's see some details of the main skills:

  • Mastery: Gust of Mist
    • Your targeted heals also cause a blast of healing mist, healing the target for a lesser amount.
  • Comforting mist -> Passive ability.
    • Spill, Enveloping Mist, and Vivify also activate Comforting Mist.
    • After casting these spells, you will channel healing mists onto the target, healing a small amount every 0,5 seconds until you take another action.
    • Developer comment:

      • Do you need an efficient healing? Cast any heal and let Comforting Mist continue to heal for free for as long as you like!

      • Do you need high performance healing? Cast any heal and move on to the next target in need, wasting no time on Comforting Mist.

      • For Mistweavers, it's fine to have a global cooldown between heals. Comforting mist fills that void.

  • To spill -> Fast and efficient heal that heals a small amount of health to the target.
    • 1.8% mana, 40 yards, 1,5 second cast.
  • Enveloping fog -> Heal over time that heals a large amount of health over 6 seconds and causes your heals to heal the target for 30% more.
    • 6.0% mana, 40 yards, 2 second cast.
  • Renewing mist -> Heal over time that heals a massive amount of health to the target for 20 seconds. If Renewing Mist heals too much (overheal), the remaining amount will pass to a wounded ally within 20 yards.
    • 3.5% Mana, Instant, 6 second cooldown.
    • You have a 4% chance to increase the healing of your next Vivify by 50% each time Renewing Mist heals.
  • Essence source -> Launch healing bolts every 1 second for 3 seconds to up to 6 allies within 25 yards. Each shock is a direct moderate heal, and also leaves a moderate time heal for 8 seconds.
    • 8.0% mana, 40 meter range, channeled.
  • Vivify -> Heal with a wave of mists a moderate amount to the target and the 2 closest allies to the main target.
    • 5.0% mana, 40 yards, 1,5 second cast.

Some talents will also be modified. The following is an example:

  • Fogwalker -> You run towards an ally instantly healing them a large amount.
    • 40 meters, instant, 20 second reload, 2 charges.

Wind traveler

As we have mentioned before, the intention for the legion monk is to return to the original idea of this class. For this, the Wind Traveler will be deepened and simplified. His new mastery "Combination of attacks" increases the damage of our abilities when it is not a repeated ability, that is, when we have not used the same ability consecutively. According to Blizzard, this novelty is inspired by classic fighting video games.

Storm, Earth and Fire will also be modified. Additionally, the Hundred Traveling Monk will conserve Chi and Energy, and will have many short cooldown abilities.

Without further ado, let's look at some examples:

  • Mastery: Combination Attacks
    • Your skills deal 25% more damage as long as they are not replays of previous skills (Mastery with medium level equipment).
  • Tiger palm -> Deals low damage and generates 2 Chi. Using this skill has an 8% chance that your next dark kick will be free (it won't cost any chi).
    • 50 Energy, Melee, Instant.
  • Dark kick -> You deal moderate physical damage.
    • 1 chi, melee, instant.
  • Kick of the rising sun -> Deal high damage and reduce the target's healing for 10 seconds.
    • 2 Chi, Melee, Instant, 8 second cooldown.
  • Fists of fury -> Deal massive damage to all enemies in front of you for 4 seconds. Secondary targets take less damage than the primary target. It can be channeled in motion.
    • 3 Chi, Melee, Channeled, 20 second cooldown.
  • Spinning Crane Kick -> Deal moderate damage to all enemies within 8 meters for 1,5 seconds.
    • 1 of chi, channeled.
  • Storm, Earth and Fire -> You divide into 3 elemental spirits to attack 3 or more targets. Each spirit deals 50% of normal damage and healing. Lasts until Earth and Fire are destroyed or until you cancel the ability.
    • The monk directly controls the spirit of the storm. Earth and fire copy the monk's attacks on other nearby enemies.
    • Developer comment:

      • Now a simple change: no markup required! The spirits will automatically attack nearby enemies as you attack your target.

And as with all specs, the Windwalking Monk is also modified by talents. This is one of the new exclusive to this specialization:

  • Combination of blows -> Passive talent.
    • Each successive attack that triggers Consecutive Attack Combination deals 1% increased damage. Stackable up to 10 times.
