Blizzard Issues Statement on Warcraft III: Reforged Complaints

Due to the wave of criticism and complaints produced by the bugs and lack of content in Warcraft III: Reforged, Blizzard has issued a statement explaining some points.

But do you think this statement is enough? Will Blizzard commit to adding that missing content?

    Greetings Warcraft 3 players

We have been following the discussions in recent days and we want to thank you for your feedback and support. First, we want to apologize to all of you who have not had the experience you wanted, and we would like to tell you about our plans for what is to come.

For a few hours on launch day, we experienced server overloads that had an impact on players' ability to directly enter the game, but we were able to resolve them later that day. Other than that, we've seen community feedback on different aspects of Reforged that we'd like to discuss for a bit.

Before we move on: The team is very excited that Warcraft III: Reforged is finally with us, and we are truly committed to continuing to support the game for a long time to come. The following patches and updates that we are going to talk about below are part of our ongoing plans. This title is an integral part of Blizzard's DNA, with a team that loves Warcraft III, and we want to put all our hearts into Reforged and the Warcraft III community for the long term.

One of the concerns that we have seen in Reforged has been the visual aspect when selecting the Classic Mode. We have identified the bug that was causing the colors and shadows to be different from the original Warcraft III, and we are testing a fix that will be incorporated into a major patch for this issue and others. We hope to release it later this week. The patch will also cover many other known issues, such as fixing some animations in the portraits and audio bugs, implementing fixes for the interface, and more. Please take a good look at the patch notes for a full list of all fixed bugs.

Another area of concern we have observed has to do with online features such as rankings and clans, which apply to all Warcraft III players, including those who have not purchased Reforged. We talked a lot at Blizzcon about how the team is actively working on stabilizing the back-end to ensure a smooth transition to this new MMR system, similar to how we already did with Starcraft: Remastered. Similarly, these and other features will be included in a large patch for Reforged, which will also fix the problem for players of the original. We will share our release plans with you as work progresses over the next few weeks. Rest assured that the team is working hard to lift these characteristics.

There are some individual concerns that we have seen that we currently do not plan to do anything about, so we want to bring the community to attention. In version 1.30 of the original game, we were seeing a very low percentage of use in tournaments and in the Reign of Chaos rules, so we removed both in mid-2019 (with patch 1.31). Getting rid of unused item maintenance has helped us steer our overall work into the game and focus on areas that are relevant to the majority of players. That said, players who prefer Reign of Chaos will find custom maps with similar rules that we hope will help address that concern.

Related to that, as we said last year at Blizzcon, we didn't want the in-game cinematics to stray too far from the original game. We talked more about that process at the event, but the main reason is that the campaigns tell one of the most classic stories of the Warcraft saga, and we want to preserve the true spirit of Warcraft III by allowing players to relive these unforgettable moments as and when as they were (although rebuilt with new animations and a much more faithful design).

We know that this release does not answer all questions, but we are committed to developing and supporting this game. We hope you'll stay tuned for this week's patch and future updates, and let us know your thoughts as we continue to improve things. Until then, thank you as always for your support and passion for Warcraft III. We appreciate all of your feedback and we will continue to inform the community of whatever we are working on.

Sincerely, the Warcraft III: Reforged team.
