Blizzard servers suffer a DDoS attack this afternoon

Blizzard's servers have had massive issues this afternoon with various games (World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Hearthstone), experiencing severe latency issues and server disconnections.

Blizzard has acknowledged the issue on Twitter, telling fans that it is investigating the outage and will attempt to resolve the issues later today.

We are currently investigating an issue affecting our authentication servers, which may result in slow or failed login attempts.

Starting at 5 in the afternoon Blizzard began to notice problems. On the Down Detector page, a large increase in problems was recorded, accumulating more than 2800 incident reports. The attacks continued until almost 2 hours after they started. Users have seen how the latency skyrocketed and in some cases they have even been disconnected from their account.

Down Detector, which monitors online outages, also saw a huge increase in connection problems in the games Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and Hearthstone especially.

Later, Blizzard confirms on Twitter that its servers are being affected by various DDoS attacks, taking most of its servers offline.

We are currently monitoring a DDOS attack against network providers that is affecting connections and causing latency to our games.

So far, no group or person has declared themselves the perpetrator of the events. Blizzard has also not wanted to name itself about the source of the attacks. Luckily, the problem has now been solved and there no longer appear to be any disconnection or high latency issues.
