World of Warcraft Classic and Burning Crusade Classic characters and kingdoms

In Burning Crusade Classic, players will have the opportunity to take their characters beyond Azeroth and cross the Dark Portal to Outland or stay in Azeroth for all eternity. During the in-depth review of World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic At BlizzConline, Holly Longdale, Lead Producer, Patrick Dawson, Production Manager, and Brian Birmingham, Lead Software Engineer, discussed what awaits gamers when it launches Burning Crusade Classic in 2021.

Where will your adventures take you?

With the release of the patch prior to Burning Crusade Classic, players will have the opportunity to choose what they want to do with each of their characters from WoW Classic: accompany the rest of the heroes of the Horde and the Alliance of his kingdom until the era of The Burning Crusade or continue with the adventures of the original content on the brand new servers «Classic era».

When the preview patch is available, players will have the option to choose between WoW Classic y Burning Crusade Classic from the Battle.net desktop application. WoW Classic will direct you to the new realms of Classic Era, which will feature the final phase of content from WoW Classic and they will not receive the contents of the expansions. The kingdoms of Burning Crusade Classic contain all new game systems from The Burning Crusade, including the races of the blood elves and the draenei. They will be available with the release of the previous patch.

You will have to choose the game you want to enter with each of your available characters. The first time a player logs in with a character on a client, they will be asked to confirm if they want to activate it in that game. When you choose where to play, that character's clone on the other client will not be available unless the player chooses to "clone" his character with an optional paid service.

Players who want to experience the best of both worlds will have the option to unlock both "clones" of each character from WoW Classic with an optional paid service that allows each hero to venture into Burning Crusade Classic as his character from Classic Era continues his original adventure. Clones are created from a snapshot of their state just before the pre-patch. Burning Crusade Classic and they do not include any additional progress from then on. That is, if you keep playing with your character from WoW Classic for several months and you unlock the clone later, it will not include any further advancements past the initial snapshot point.

What about the kingdoms?

Here's how they'll work: Existing kingdoms will receive the new content from Burning Crusade Classic in the corresponding patch. If you choose to play with this new content, your character will remain the same in all aspects, including kingdom, brotherhood and more, only with access to Burning Crusade Classic and all the news it includes.

If you prefer the character to remain in WoW Classic, you can play with him in a new realm of Classic Era. These realms are in a new Battle.net desktop app client. Friends from your starting realm who also choose to play in the Classic Era realm will join you in the same realm. For its part, your list of friends will remain available wherever you are.

The names of the kingdoms will be the same for both the kingdoms of Burning Crusade Classic as for Classic Era, and player characters will remain as they were before the previous patch on both.

Let's do a review

To simplify the process, we are going to do a quick summary of everything important:

  1. On the day of the patch, you can open the Battle.net desktop app and choose the game you want: Burning Crusade Classic o WoW Classic.
  2. Your characters will appear in both games under the names of your ancient kingdoms.
  3. After choosing a game, you will select a character to play and confirm your choice.
  4. If you decide to play your character in both games, you can use an optional paid service to gain access to the cloned character in both games.
  5. Then you just have to log in as usual and play.

And thereafter…

We'll provide more details on each realm type and the options available to characters later, closer to the release of Burning Crusade Classic. You can continue to find out here, on the official page of World of Warcraft.
