We recently learned that 30 gaming companies (including Twitch, Blizzard and Riot) have created a Fair Play Alliance coalition in an attempt to counter toxic behavior in online games. (you can read the whole news here).

In a recent tweet by Mark Kern, the former Blizzard team leader is quite concerned about the ends this coalition has served, arguing that as shown by the inherent sinister nature of the Fair Play Alliance is'create a network of companies to share data about the players«. With the controversy recently uncovered about the leakage of Facebook data to third parties and companies, Mark Kern assures that extreme care must be taken when handling personal data of players since it is very easy for them to fall into the wrong hands.

He noted that the initiative can only result in an "industry-wide player blacklist", which appears to be the only realistic thing the coalition can do, aside from condemning themselves to their own end.

Earlier, Mark Kern commented that "he's pretty tired of companies trying to act like governments by going beyond their own game." Although he is in favor of monitoring every video game and platform to maintain bad behavior, he believes that going to such an extent is bordering on the ridiculous. The toxicity shown by some online players is a much broader problem, which could not be solved by all companies in the world, regardless of their intentions.
