New Heart of Azeroth system preview
Azeroth has never been in such a bind, and now more than ever, Speaker Magni Bronzebeard and the titanic sentinel MOTHER need your help to heal the world's grave wounds.
En Azshara's Awakening, we're introducing a new Heart of Azeroth system that will bring you new power customization options: the essences. You will earn these Essences by participating in various content and infuse your Heart of Azeroth with them through the new Heart Forge in Silithus, allowing you to access new abilities and bonuses.
The Spokesman's mission continues
When you have established a new operations center in Nazjatar, one of the new areas that includes Azshara's AwakeningMagni will summon you to accompany him to the Chamber of the Heart. There you will discover that MOTHER has completed her calculations on what haunts Azeroth and has identified a way to heal the world well before her initial prediction of 77 cycles. New forms of power have begun to bind and manifest through the wounds of Azeroth, and MOTHER has discovered that these "essences" are compatible with the Heart of Azeroth. To harness them, he has created a new device in the Chamber of the Heart capable of unleashing their incredible power: the Heart Forge.
The Essence of the Heart Forge
The Heart Forge allows players to infuse their Heart of Azeroth with essences that grant them new combat-related powers. Once you've obtained a new Essence - by participating in a wide variety of content - you will head to the Heart Forge to infuse your Heart of Azeroth with it after "learning" the Essence and permanently adding it to your collection. As with talents, when you learn an essence, you will have the opportunity to apply or change it in a new interface of the Heart of Azeroth that you will find in rest areas, in cities or when using items such as the Tome of the Silent Mind.
Each essence has major (normally active) and minor (passive) abilities. After completing Magni's initial quest, you will open a single main slot in the Heart of Azeroth. By placing an essence in that slot, you will gain that essence's primary active ability, which will be added to your spellbook. In addition, you will benefit from the possible minor passive powers of the essence.
There are also two more minor slots in the Heart of Azeroth that activate the minor (passive) abilities of the essences you assign to them. The first minor slot will be available after reaching Heart of Azeroth level 55; the second secondary slot, at Heart of Azeroth level 65.

In essence
Essences are obtained by participating in a wide variety of content from Battle for Azeroth. You will get the first one after completing the Magni quest chain, but you will have the opportunity to acquire more through other specific activities, such as PvP, raids or world missions.
Each essence has four ranks that provide new effects. Rank 1 grants a unique ability based on your role (DPS, Tank, or Healer), while Rank 2 and 3 grant enhancements to the main effect and the secondary effect of Essence. The 4 adds a striking cosmetic effect to the spell to visually stand out from the rest. Once you've learned an Essence, you can hover your mouse over it in the UI to see what it will provide you with the next rank. Due to how Essences are obtained, it is possible to receive and imbue the Heart of Azeroth with a Rank 3 Essence without the need to learn Rank 1 or 2.
It should be noted that, although many essences are independent of the character's function, some solo can be used by a specific role (tank, healer, or DPS). Characters able to specialize in various roles can obtain essences suitable for those roles, but the system will prevent characters from obtaining essences intended for roles impossible for their class (for example, a warrior cannot obtain a healer essence).
