PvP item system and ranking in Battle for Azeroth

In Battle for Azeroth there is going to be a major change in the PvP item system and also in the ranking system. Anyway, as you know, we are still in the beta version of the game, so all this may be subject to many changes. I leave you some information on this topic, waiting to be able to test it in the beta.

In Battle for Azeroth, we are undergoing a major overhaul of the PvP item system and ranking system. We are still putting the finishing touches on it, but we would like to share with you some details that may help mitigate some of your concerns. Keep in mind that some of these things could still change. We do not promise anything.

New ranking system

We're updating the ranking system to be more like the other Blizzard games. World of Warcraft, with its arena, was one of Blizzard's first competitive games to have a rating system, so admit to an update.

To that end, we want to group players into levels (more or less like StarCraft or Overwatch), with labels like Gold, Platinum, etc. While we will continue to have our own titles such as Contender, Rival, Duelist, etc., we believe these tiers have become common terms in competitive PvP communities, so we are excited to bring them to World of Warcraft. Keep in mind that you can still see your index at the end of the game and within the UI. We are also considering adding your ranking position to the UI (with messages like: "You are in XNUMXth place in the region").

New rewards item tier system

As in Legion, we will reward you with better quality gear based on your competitive level. However, in Legion the rewards improved in a linear way (that is, the higher the index, the more the item level increased, progressively). We believe this did not fairly reflect the player distribution when allocating appropriate rewards based on effort. (Translation: the rewards item level was too low overall.) Therefore, we are going to modify the distribution so that it more closely resembles a bell curve and reflects the new classification system.

This means that players of Contender / Gold level (between 1600 and 1800) will be able to obtain items of similar quality to those of the normal raids, players of Rival / Platinum level (from 1800 approximately) will receive items of similar quality to those of the normal raids. of the heroic bands and so on.

Epic appearances and other rewards

There will be different rewards associated with different levels. In Legion you got the full epic appearance by reaching a rating of 2000; In Battle for Azeroth you will get it gradually. In addition, you will receive the appearance instantly after reaching the level in question, rather than after a calculation at the end of the season.

We fully understand your concerns regarding the excessive width of the tier range. We also agree that the competitive spirit tends to be more evident at higher rates, so this is something we will keep in mind. The season's Gladiator mounts (and surely Gladiator titles) will still be a percentage distribution at the end of the season, just like in the past, and we may see new rewards for higher tiers when we move some of the others. (epic appearances) down.

Conquest weekly

As we talked about in the past, we are introducing a conquest system based on previous designs. You will earn Conquest Points for doing PvP activities (especially rated ones, but also some in War mode) that will fill in a reward bar each week. The objective is that this is an incentive for the average player.

One of our biggest goals with the new system is to better match effort and reward compared to other aspects of the game, especially for lower-level players, who perhaps in Legion (or before) did not consider it worth the effort. weather. I think we can all agree that having more players interested in competitive PvP is a worthwhile goal.

We hope to roll out these systems in the beta soon and hear from you!
