Wolf Heart, the latest novel by World of Warcraft written by the prestigious author of New York Times Richard A. Knaak, is the story of King Varian Wrynn's conflict to accept the worguen of Gilneas into the Alliance and reconciliation with their inner wolf.

After the Cataclysm, conflicts have engulfed every corner of Azeroth. Searching for more resources amid the confusion, the Horde has penetrated Ashenvale to fuel its growing war machine. There, Warchief Garrosh Hellscream is using a brutal new tactic to conquer the region and crush the night elves who defend it, an act that would undermine the power of the Alliance throughout… World of Warcraft.

Unaware of the disaster brewing in Ashenvale, legendary night elf leaders High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind and Archdruid Malfurion Stormrage convene a meeting in Darnassus to admit the proud Worgen of Gilneas into the Alliance. However, the resentment against Gilneas and his king Genn Greymane runs deep within the king of Stormwind Varian Wrynn. His refusal to forgive Genn for isolating his country from the rest of the world years ago endangers more than just the reunion: it threatens to wipe out the Alliance itself.

Varian's animosity is just one of the very disturbing events taking place on Darnassus. Restlessness takes hold of the once immortal night elves as the first of them falls prey to the diseases of old age. As they face their mortality, tensions grow over the possible reinstatement into their society of the Highborns, who were the highest caste of the elven nobility. Many night elves cannot forgive the Highborns for the destruction millennia ago caused their reckless use of magic on Azeroth.

When the body of a slain Highborne is discovered on the outskirts of Darnassus, Malfurion and Tyrande act to stop further bloodshed and unrest by tasking one of the most cunning and skilled agents of the night elves to uncover the assassin: the renowned vigilant Maiev Shadowsong. But with all that is happening in Darnassus, the Alliance could be helpless to prevent Garrosh, the relentless Warchief of the orcs, from taking over all of Ashenvale.

Wow, and I thought that Tyrande had locked Maiev in a cell for life ... from what Maiev says after finishing with Illidan I did not expect him to reappear xD
