Gul'dan Normal and Heroic Guide - Nighthold

GUL'DAN

Welcome to the guidance of Gul'dan, tenth leader of the Nighthold gang. In this guide we discuss the strategy and skills to take into account to successfully defeat Gul'dan, we have also made a video guide to have a more complete view of the encounter.

Gul'dan

The chain of events that began with Garrosh's escape to Draenor has continued intact, despite all its twists and turns, until the present moment. Frustrated on Draenor, Gul'dan is about to achieve ultimate victory on behalf of his Legion masters. From atop the Nighthold, where the vile energy vortex swirls above him in the sky, the deserted orc warlock awaits his fate.

Summary

Gul'dan locks himself in the active Eye of Aman'thul and summons his demonic lieutenants. However, proximity to the active Aman'thul Eye grants players just as powerful abilities depending on their role.

After his lieutenants fall, Gul'dan himself enters the fray and uses the fel energy to empower his frail body. When his health reaches 85%, 70% and 55%, Gul'dan again uses the Active Eye of Aman'thul and amplifies the power of his abilities.

As his health continues to decline, Gul'dan pleads with his Legion masters for more power, unleashing his ultimate strength while interrupting the help players receive from the eye.

Strategy

The encounter against Gul'dan consists of three phases, The Council of Elders, The Ritual of Aman'thul and The Power of the Master. During the three phases Gul'dan will use the Eye of Aman'thul to increase his power, so it will be an increasing combat in terms of damage. Throughout the game the players will be placed relatively close, except for specific skills that we will now comment on.

Phase 1: The Council of Elders

In this first phase, Gul'dan takes refuge in the Eye of Aman'thul and summons minions, but the players will also gain power with this fact. We will have a special ability according to our role that will help us face Gul'dan and his demonic lords.

Gul'dan will use Hellfire liquid every few seconds, at which point the healers will use their special ability and some CDs of their own to counter the fel fire damage. In our case, when we have 6 healers, we use two Scattered field each time to cover all the players in the band and a proper healing cd, thus assigning a rotation between the healers that we will repeat throughout the encounter.

Also every few seconds the boss will use Gul'dan's Hand, which in addition to summoning a meteorite and inflicting damage to the raid, summons a demon at the location of the impact; he will repeat this ability until he has summoned all three of his demons.

vile gul'dan emanation

These three demons must be tanked relatively close together in order to take advantage of the AoE damage of the some classes. We have to finish them off as soon as possible, in addition to paying attention to some of their abilities. While we finish off the three demons, Gul'dan will also use Vile Emanation, very visible ability represented by a beam of fel fire and that we must dodge.

  • The tank with the Vile Lord Kuraz'mal must use its special ability Resonant barrier to receive Essence of destruction, in Heroic difficulty it will also be necessary the support of the healers with Scattered field.
  • Inquisitor Vethriz won't hit too many problems on Normal difficulty, but he will on Heroic. In this difficulty in addition to the Gaze of Vethriz with which we will see how the room is filled with eyes to dodge, gain a new ability To drain, with which it will heal itself, so it must be dispelled. Inquisitor Vethriz will be our main focus.
  • With the third demon D'zorykx the Trapper, we must take into account the ability Soul vortex, skill with which he drops a trap into which we cannot fall. In heroic difficulty, gain a new ability with which the band will receive high damage and that we must also avoid, Anguished spirits.

Party dps can use their special ability Temporal dilation at the beginning of the fight, matching it with your personal CDs. There is no specific time, but it will depend on each class, but it will be important that they can use it in the Eye of Gul'dan that we will see from the second phase.

Phase 2: The Ritual of Aman'thul

Dead the demons change phase, stay in the center of the platform or it will expel you from it. Now we start fighting Gul'dan directly and he will boost his abilities to 85%, 70% and 55% health.

Gul'dan maintains his ability Empowered Liquid Hellfire now empowered, for which we will continue to use the same cds rotation assigned at the beginning, only now in addition the raid must move immediately afterwards because a zone of flames will appear that inflicts additional damage if you stay in it.

In this phase Gul'dan incorporates the ability Fel Energy Bindings, which in addition to 70% health will change by Empowered Fel Energy Bindings. To alleviate the damage of this ability and save the fixed we must accompany them and distribute the damage with them until they are released.

It will also start to appear Eye of Gul'dan. Every time we see them, the band must separate to lessen the damage. We have to end the Eye of Gul'dan as soon as possible, since they have an energy bar that when filled makes them gain the ability Double and they create a copy of themselves, complicating the encounter a lot. This will start to worry us especially as we lower Gul'dan's life as the eyes will be empowered, Empowered Eye of Gul'dan, gaining life and damage. For this reason, it is convenient for dps to use their special ability Temporal dilation.

In heroic difficulty we will also have to deal with a Lord of Terror that will appear when the boss uses his ability Gul'dan's Hand. This demon is quite a bit tougher than those seen in the first phase. We must interrupt the ability Carrion surge, but this demon must fall very fast, since every time we cut him, he increases all the damage dealt by 20% and the attack speed by 20%

Finally the tanks must be placed together to share the damage of Fel Scythe, keep in mind that this ability has increasing damage due to Fury of Vileness, so this is a good time to use the tank special ability, Resonant barrier.

Phase 3: The Master's Power

At 40% health, Gul'dan uses the Eye of Aman'thul to gain new, empowered abilities and disrupt any powers players receive from the Eye.

As they change phase we will be pushed again, so watch out for falling off the platform and we will see a new ability, Well of Souls. While it is active it will suck our souls with Soul suction and also the players who step on the Well of Souls will win Soul corrosion, receiving a lot of damage, so we must avoid stepping on the center of the room.

* At this time we will throw the Heroism since in addition to taking advantage of lowering the life of the boss as much as possible at this moment without movement, the healers also benefit to heal the abilities that they will do at this moment that are of very high damage *

Then we will see how Gul'dan gives us again with the ability Empowered Eye of Gul'dan that we already know, we will use healing cds to alleviate it and we will take advantage of the heroism just thrown to end them, since we have been stripped of our special abilities.

Immediately afterwards Gul'dan will use Dark Harvest, unleashing all the soul chunks it has sucked from players and dealing massive damage. From here we healers will use our CDs one after another in each empowered ability.

Meanwhile we will also have to deal with an ability that Gul'dan incorporates in the third phase, Flames of Sargeras. Marked players should move away from others and leave the play areas. Desolate terrain Outside the room, we will see these areas represented with areas of fire that, obviously, we must avoid stepping on.

The next skill that we will see incorporated in this third phase is Destroyer's Storm, this ability is deadly if it is not dodged correctly, so that all the players will run to the opposite end of the room so that we can have 60 meters of distance between Gul'dan and us. If we do not have the skills to move away quickly, we will use sorcerer portals, they will be a good help especially for the melés.

As in the second phase, the tanks will have to face the ability Fel ScytheOnly now they no longer have their special ability so they will depend on their personal CDs and the help of the healers.

Until the end of the encounter we will continue to deal with all these abilities, the last moments of the encounter being critical for healers due to the amount of damage it will inflict. Dark Harvest and  Empowered Eye of Gul'dan, without forgetting to quickly get out of the Destroyer's Storm.

And so far the summary of the meeting, I hope it has helped you and remember that any questions, comments or suggestions are more than Welcome.
