Holy Paladin: A Guide to Healing Properly

I am Turelim from the Kingdom of Quel'thalas and this is my second guide. The first was about addons for an American Brotherhood forum, but I stayed there, saved in the forum, now I focus more on Theorycrafting.

I'm going to tell you about what for me is one of the most emblematic classes, and although many may not believe it, a fairly complex class in its first branch. I mean, obviously, the Holy Paladin.

guide_paladin_sagrado_banner

Years of using the paladin (from vanilla) allowed me to see all the changes that the holy branch underwent; Since TBC a healing paladin became a more than viable healer for raids, and in WotLK it underwent quite a few changes to its holy branch, putting us at the height of supposedly better classes to heal.

The holy paladin is considered by many to be an incompetent "healer", a tank healer, an over-healer healer. But the truth is that the healing paladin, using it properly, is an exceptional healer since his healings are direct and although we do not have Heals over Time such as that of the Druid or the Priest, or special healings such as those of the priest (Prayer of relief ) or chain healings like those of the Shaman, our healings are more direct and can often save everyone from a wipe.

I decided to make this guide first, because I have always been a Paladin and know its mechanics quite well, and second because there is a debate around two supposed specializations of the paladin in its sacred branch, the Spammers of Flash of Light and the Spammers of Sacred light. Each specialization has its pros and cons and I am going to try to cover them here:

Play styles

Beam of light

Flash of Light Spammer is an extremely viable specialization in Heroic Dungeons for its fast and powerful heals. It is also more dynamic, it allows you to have a better control of your heals while in bands it becomes extremely useful for healings on the members of the band, and on the tank if you have it. Beacon of Light.

  • Advantages
    • Better healing per second
    • More efficient mana management
    • Quick healings
    • Low but stable mana regen
    • Less overhealing
  • Drawbacks
    • Divine supplication it is greatly diminished by the small amount of mana we have
    • It depends a lot on the Spell Power and the equipment you have

Sacred light

Holy Light Spammer is very viable in raids due to the large amount of HPM that is generated and in addition to being extremely powerful heals. With the glyph, a healing over a considerable area becomes, in bands is where it is best used since being direct and large amount healings, a Paladin can focus on a single character or a group of them, since their powerful heals They allow you to do it, also in some heroic dungeons where the damage is considerable and especially the new Icecrown dungeons becomes an excellent option.

  • Advantages
    • Band flexibility (as main or band healer)
    • Best HPM
    • Thanks to Glyph of Holy Light, we can do a little area healing
    • Increased mana regeneration
    • Divine supplication gives a considerable amount of mana
  • Drawbacks
    • If there is not enough mana, heals are depleted by Divine Supplication
    • Healings over time generated by Sacral shield they are considerably reduced.

Obviously all of this is subjective, and I know that many Paladins will disagree with this, but the idea is to form an overview of each of the Holy paladin's specializations and show how each Paladin can boost their heals, by choosing a specialization disgust.

FoL Spammer is an extremely viable specialization in Heroic Dungeons for its fast and powerful healings, it is also more dynamic, it allows you to have better control of your healings; Raid becomes extremely useful for healings on raid members, and on the tank if you are wearing Beacon of Light.

Talents

Moving on to talents, we can opt for two primary configurations:

52/17/2 (PvE with Divine Guardian)

With this we improve our Laying on of Hands and gives us the ability to Divine Guardian which is a very useful talent. The specialization does not matter since both receive their bonuses from this distribution.

52/5/14 (PvE with Heart of the Crusader)

A pretty good spec if we regularly do heroic dungeons. Since the two talents that give us criticism, they are quite good.

Glyphs

For Holy Light

For this build Obviously the Glyph of Holy Light. On the other hand, I recommend the Glyph of Seal of Wisdom for the 5% reduction in mana cost and Glyph of Beacon of Light to increase its duration.

For Flash of Light

Definitely the Glyph of Flash of Light, Glyph of Signet of Light and Glyph of Beacon of Light

For the minors, the best, no matter the specialization, will always be Laying on of hands, Blessing of Kings y Blessing of Wisdom

Rotation or Skills

Although we do not necessarily have a rotation, we do have to take into account certain priorities when doing our healings.

Sign of the Light > Sacred Shield > Beam of light > Sacred light > Divine illumination > Divine favor > Divine supplication

Obviously depending on the specialization, the use of Beam of light o Sacred light changes.

Sign of the Light It depends a lot on the situation, although commonly the one who takes the most damage during the encounter is put, although this can vary. In encounters like the ones we can see in Trial of the Crusader, the signal must almost always be changing targets.

divine illumination is commonly used in times of high healing stress, and along with avenging wrath they make an excellent combination to improve our healings substantially.

I personally recommend the use of Sacred Shield if you opt for the specialization of Beam of light since by substantially improving Beam of light (and therefore the HoTs procs) with Sacred Shield they look improved.

Statistics

Depending on the specialization you do, you have to cover certain limits in order to maximize our healings.

  • 676 Haste Rating to reduce cast times and reduce GCD to 1 second. However, with the talents for Flash of Light, it is not as necessary to reach this ch.
  • 20% Critical Hit Rate, to improve the amount of critical and save us some mana. Very useful in both branches.
  • 30,000 - 40,000 mana if you use Holy Light or> 2,500 spell power if you use Flash of Light.

In case you want to put a prismatic gem I think there is no better option than the Nightmare tear, which gives +10 to all stats.
