Rogue PvE Guide

I bring to your hands one Rogue Guide for PvE. A guide that will serve you in many ways:

If you are not a rogue reading it may make you forget the idea that a rogue is the easiest of all classes, that we only have two buttons; we are a class that needs love, dedication, study and a lot of work. That, of course, is a good rogue.
If you want to make a rogue
It will show you the qualities and objectives that you will have to set as your goal.
If you are a rogue
Without much idea (as it happened to me being at level 70 and having no idea what I had to do) this guide will show you everything you can do with your character and take into account everything you need.
And if you are a rogue applied and fantastic, it will also help you, as a "bedside guide" to help you in your choices of gems, professions and more.

As a guide for PvE in this one, we are going to cover the two branches of Dps PvE in depth: Combat and Mutilation.

I hope you like it and, above all, that it is useful for you.

Guide updated to 3.3.

The Rogues

What are we?

We are a kind of "Pure Damage." Why don't I say pure DPS? Your goal, as a rogue, should be to do as much damage as possible, this is Total Damage Done, not Damage per Second. You will have raid companions, especially casters who will have a high DPS. I'm not saying it's not important, I'm not saying you forget about DPS, after all, the higher your dps should also be your total damage. But these two things do not always go hand in hand. Much less with the Rogues.

A rogue who shoots three crit early in the fight is likely to lead the dps, but will also top the kill list. We are leather, we are scrum, we are a bad combination to receive more than one blow. As much as it costs us, we are not tanks, if you want to tank make yourself one (I did it). The most important thing is: stay alive, the damage and, above all, stay alive.

We are Damage. We have nothing more to contribute to the raid and if we don't do it well, we are nothing. We have no benefits or assets or liabilities to contribute to a group, although we can always help by controlling a clueless enemy that is attacking those who should not. Then, it may happen to you that you have to choose between hurting or keeping someone alive. Many of you will be thinking "That's a tank thing, don't be confused", yes, surely. But could you let the healer die knowing that it will be a mass death, just by not stopping doing damage? You have to think about it.

But we are here to increase our damage, aren't we? Let's keep going.

What you should know

I bring you some quick tips and, above all, basic tips that you should know before starting to model your rogue.

  • Don't make the band or group die because of you.
  • Do not die. Except if by this rule you break the first one.
  • Always keep your Make mincemeat.
  • Don't keep your energy maxed out. Maximum energy is wasted energy.
  • The Expertise Limit is 26. More of that is useless.
  • Primary Weapon: Slow (higher damage) - Instant poisons.
Secondary Weapon: Quick (speed) - Deadly poison.
    * For Mutilation Rogues, you should choose the dagger with the highest DPS for your main hand. If you have two with the same DPS use the slower one in the main hand.
  • Use all your "cooldowns" whenever possible and it is not a fight in which you need the maximum dps at a certain moment of the fight. Do not use them right after starting a fight or you can take the threat and die.
  • La Operational it is cumulative. Using Adrenaline Rush and / or Flurry of Steel and / or Potions of Haste and / or Bloodlust / Heroism will give you increased DPS. Although it would not be necessary if you are near the limit of Haste.

Mutilation or Combat?

Carefully study the two forms of fighting, their talents, rotations and specific weapons so that you can choose the branch that best suits your way of playing. Normally mutilation in static combat tends to slightly outperform Combat. But Combate has greater versatility.

Weapons are the limiting factor in choosing one of a rogue's two specializations, your specialization must revolve around them.

Within each of the two sections we will explain what are the objectives, rotations, poisons, weapons, talent configurations and tips for that specialization. In later sections we will talk about gems, enchantments, professions, glyphs, trinkets, raid benefits ...

Mutilation

The goal of the mutilation specialization is to maximize damage to a single target by boosting poison damage. Currently a mutilation rogue must be jeweled with Attack Power and Attack Power / Haste gems to increase poison damage through attack power and weapon hit. You must stay away from the Armor Penetration as much as possible, it does not benefit the damage of poisons in absolute, what is more, it can cause some problems with what is usually called Critical Limit (cap).

After the negative change to the poisons attack power multiplier, using two quick daggers would be a loss of dps.

On the other hand, Vigor is NOT a talent that you should use in your PvE-oriented specialization. This will not give you more energy regeneration, and as a mutilation you shouldn't have to worry about the energy cap (or at least you shouldn't if you play it correctly). The only thing that could give you Vigor would be an extra special attack at the beginning of the fight.

Weapons and Poisons for the Mutilation Rogue

Dagger with higher DPS in the main hand, fast dagger in the secondary.

Faster Dagger: Deadly Poison.
Secondary Dagger: Instant Poison.

Rotations

  • Make sure to keep the enemy bleeding (Rupture, Deep Wounds, Rend…)
  • It begins with Hunger for Blood.
  • Whenever you can, activate Make Picadillo as soon as possible.
  • Use Vanish whenever you can to activate the Exterminate buff.
  • Activate Hunger for Blood.
  • Activate Make Hash and keep it.
  • Every four combo points cast Poison.
  • Use Secrets of the Trade whenever possible, especially with two tier 10 pieces.

Talent Settings

Mutilation only has one viable configuration:

Mutilation 51/18/2
Attack Power and Attack Power / Haste Gems.

Combat

The goal of the Combat specialization is to increase white damage while, at the same time, giving you options to do some good explosive or area damage. Although in combat, theoretically, Mutilation is the best specialization, Combat will give you a certain advantage in encounters where explosive damage is important. Adrenaline Rush and Multi-Kill paired with Steel Flurry is a deadly combination.

A Combat rogue should ideally reach the minimum Armor Penetration limit (with gear attributes and gems) using a Penetration trinket. The numbers change a lot with different beads, but having 700 to 750 Penetration will keep you in good stead. You can also approach the maximum limit with good equipment and the trinket of the Will of the Deathbringer.

If you have good weapons, combat can be the most viable and powerful specialization you can count on in certain encounters.

Weapons and Poisons for the Combat Rogue

Main weapon sword / ax, fist weapon, mace. Mainly a slow weapon.
Secondary weapon sword / ax, dagger or fist weapon. Mainly a fast weapon.

Primary Weapon: Instant Poison.
Secondary weapon: Deadly Poison.

Rotations

  • Start by activating Make Picadillo whenever possible and keep it active.
  • Use all your cooldowns whenever possible. Multiple Assassination with Steel Flurry, Steel Flurry with Adrenaline Rush are useful combinations. Adrenaline Rush with Multi Kill is not recommended as you would waste a lot of energy while Multi Kill is solving.
  • Activate Make Hash, no matter how many combos you use.
  • With five combo points he casts Eviscerate.
  • Secrets of the Trade whenever available, especially with two tier 10 pieces.

Note: my favorite rotation is: 3 combo points I cast Make Hash, 5 combo points I cast Rupture, see if Make Hash is still active, then you can continue to Poison, Eviscerate or Break, as the fight unfolds. If you see that he is going to die and you have more enemies nearby, reactivate your Make Mince so with the next you can start with Break or Eviscerate. You can leave yours in the comments.

Talent Settings

Although there is really only one setting, you should keep in mind which weapons you use. Let's see the basic talents and then what you should change depending on which ones you use.

Combat 20/51/0
More versatile specialization.
Agility Gems or Attack Power / Haste, Armor Penetration / Haste.

If you use fist weapons and / or daggers you must use the five points that are in Cut and Slice in the talent of Next Combat.
If you use clubs you can use the five points of Slice and Slice in the talent of Mace Specialization.

It is my idea or the images are interchanged between mutilation / combat, draw this conclusion from the descriptions made as an attack guide
