A world of shadows - Cecilia Díaz

The rain was heavy on Draenor, as the orcs clashed with each other to quench their thirst for blood, and rivers of anger ran through their veins in combat to the death, Burghok, a young apprentice of the shamanic arts practiced in his hut, trying to combine the elemental forces. He had an egocentric character, he thought that he was the best of his companions, under the influence of his mentor, the old shaman Ner'zhul, Burghok devoted all his time to becoming a great master of the forces of nature. Although he was very young, he already mastered many aspects of shamanistic mastery. However, there was something that the old shaman did not like about him, and it was his drive to be the best, the competitive nature he had with his companions showed a dark side in him, a dark aspect of which no one imagined what could happen. To make. He believed that the orcs were superior to the draenei that occupied Draenor, he hated them and the thought of them disgusted him and although their abilities were not those of an orc warrior, the thirst for blood ran through his veins. He wanted to show everyone that he was no longer an apprentice, he planned to teach them what he was capable of, and his determination and treachery made him far more capable of it than his fellow shamans.

One cold afternoon he went to the lands that the draenei cultivated, there was a small village, inhabited by families who dedicated their time to agriculture and their draenic rituals, with stealth he stared at how they acted, he waited for night to fall to end those peaceful and defenseless beings. When the little sun fell and darkness took hold of Draenor, Burghok entered a small cabin, where a father slept with his wife and two children, and with the powers he mastered, those of fire, and with an act of extreme cruelty, he killed the woman and children, saved the draenei for last, to experiment with a ritual he longed to try. The draenei, when he saw that his wife and children had lost their lives because of the vile orc, his eyes were filled with anger and beside himself he tried to kill Burghok in vain, for the orc easily managed with several bolts of lightning, to cause deep and deadly wounds on the poor draenei. Once the murder was over, Burghok began the ritual he had found in an old book that he stole from his Mentor Ner'zhul, written by himself, his name attracted much "How to raise the dead." Although he did not know what could happen, since he had never practiced it, he put all his courage and determination and continued with the ritual, voices whispered in his ear, while dark powers took over his body, that magic was not the that he had once practiced, it was a dark magic, a black magic, which he was not being able to control, the violet light that the powers emanated illuminated the room and he could see terrified how the corpulent draenei recovered his movement, he observed with terror what was happening and frightened he interrupted the ritual and ran back to his home in the orc village. That night he could not sleep, the voices kept whispering to him and the young shaman did not know where they came from, what he had witnessed hours ago had no explanation for him. Where had his master gotten this grim ritual from?

The next day the orc warriors had planned an attack on the blue beings, they planned a deadly attack towards the cabins in the east, the objectives of these attacks were nothing more than to quench their thirst for blood and seize those lands, when they reached one of The villages discovered that there was no trace of any draenei, they had fled a few hours before and the land had turned dark and barren, the plants that the draenei had cultivated had withered and the smell of putrefaction was in the air. They inspected the huts and in one of them they found a creature, it had the same figure as that of a draenei, but it had deep wounds all over its body and it did not seem to control its actions, it gave the impression that it was waiting for some order, the orcs did not they could explain how the mortal wounds hadn't finished him off. Believing that it was some kind of witchcraft, they tied him up and took him to the orc village, to investigate what had happened to that creature.

Ner'zhul, the shaman leader of the orcs, showed great interest in the case, and wanted to investigate it in private, he found that this being was neither more nor less than a creation of necromancy, that art that he was trying to master. However, the ritual had not been finished, that creation lacked the last step, the binding mind of its possessor, which it seemed that it could not find. Ner'zhul remembered that he had written that ritual in one of his books and immediately went to his library, he verified that indeed his ritual book had disappeared, the book in which he had been writing everything that appeared in his dreams, blinded out of fear he began to look for it everywhere, but could not find it. After discovering what those rituals did, he realized that such superior power might be too ambitious for his race, fearing to condemn the orcs to be enslaved by that art, Ner'zhul decided not to practice or write it again. Ner'zhul decided to put that unfinished creation to death, and in that instant, the whispers in Burghok's mind faded.

Burghok was still scared in his bed, although those whispers had stopped, he did not know what he was going to find, next to him on the table was the book that he had stolen from Ner'zhul, he was afraid that Ner'zhul would discover it and planned how get rid of him. He went out into the camp and listened as Orc warriors comment on what had happened the day before, that the draenei had been brought to the village and that Ner'zhul had taken it to his hut. He had to get rid of that book as soon as possible, if his teacher found out the punishment could be fatal. He could not return it to its owner, since he would surely have noticed its absence, so he considered two possibilities, get rid of it, or hide it in someone's house, so that Ner'zhul would believe that someone else had been guilty of that act. There was a partner that Burghok competed with, his main enemy as an apprentice, he thought it would be a good idea to hand the book to him without him realizing it, that would subtract points in front of Ner'zhul if he discovered it and perhaps he would stop instructing him, that The student he wanted to take out of the game was none other than Gul'dan.

Meanwhile Ner'zhul was looking for the book, he had to recover it, if it fell into the wrong hands it could cause a lot of damage, he could not allow his race, blinded by power, to be almost extinguished by themselves. While Gul'dan practiced magic in the fields of Draenor, Burghok slipped into his hut and left the book in his bag, in which he carried his notes and other spell books, and left the village, carrying his backpack. with food and water, and stepped away from the crowd to reflect on what had happened. It took him several days to return to the village, but Burghok did not expect what he would see in the next few days. Everything was normal, as if nothing had happened, he was confused, would Ner'zhul have recovered his book? What had happened to Gul'dan? To see what had happened, he went to visit Gul'dan, who invited him in and the two of them sat at the table.

- Where have you been these days? Ner'zhul is very angry after what happened the other night.
- What exactly happened? - asked Burghok
- They found a dying Draenei, he had wounds all over his body but he was not dead, Ner'zhul took him to investigate and since that day he is very strange, as if looking for something. But you didn't tell me where you were.
- I went to the field to find draeneis to practice a little.
- Three days? You are also very weird. Look what I found in my bag the other day, a spell book. - Burghok was filled with fear, Gul'dan had the book and had read it.
- Spells? What kind of spells?
- I don't know, they seem like rituals of some kind, but I don't know how it got into my bag. Do you want to go practice them tonight, when everyone is sleeping?
- We don't know what rituals those are, wouldn't it be better to give them to Ner'zhul to see?
- Are you afraid? I did not expect it from you, you are very strange, normally you would have been the one to suggest it to me. I don't know what's wrong with you, won't you have something to do with what happened the other night?
- Me? I don't know what you're talking about - Burghok was too nervous, his hands were sweating and he didn't know what to say. - Okay, tonight we will go see what spells it is.

Burghok, scared, returned to his cabin, it had not been the best idea to leave that book at the hands of Gul'dan, he was too ambitious and would want to master those arts, Gul'dan was not afraid of anything, he was even more egotistical than his companion and he wanted to become the most powerful shaman of all the orcs, that night was going to mark a before and after in the life of his race.

When night fell Gul'dan and Burghok found themselves on the outskirts of the village, loaded with the book they headed east, to the territories of the Draenei, Gul'dan planned to make a massacre, it seemed to Burghok that he had been watching the book too much, he did not understand why he was so anxious to try the powers that were shown in it, he seemed different, eager for power. When they arrived, and all the draeneis were sleeping, Gul'dan began a ritual, again the violet powers were shown and a great light emanated from his hands, a dark voice was heard in the darkness, and slowly, in front of them it began to form a small opening that grew little by little, creating a portal between the world of Draenor and another place, when the portal reached the approximate size through which an orc could pass, a blue being appeared, formed by the shadows of chaos, and was He approached the two young orcs, the ritual finished, the portal disappeared and the shadow being said his name was Kromgak, and that he was a deep-seated, he had arrived to serve his new master, his summoner Gul'dan. Gul'dan's face lit up and he discovered that this book was much more powerful than he could imagine, he took a quick look and saw a couple of spells he wanted to practice, along with the void and Burghok entered cabin after cabin, and with the powers of the shadows, corruption and fire he annihilated one after one all the draenei of the village, as he killed, the more his lust for power was, his thirst for blood was insatiable, Burghok saw that there were only a few hours to go. dawn and urged Gul'dan to leave the village, both knew that they could not return to their village with the demonic invocation, and creating another portal, Gul'dan sent him back into the void, promising to invoke him on future occasions so that he serve. Gul'dan was radiant, he loved his new power, a higher power with which he could destroy everything in front of him, the two companions said goodbye, and promised not to tell anyone about it, for now.
