Discovering Azeroth: Frostfire Ridge

Frostfire Ridge

Frostfire Ridge It is located northwest of Draenor. It is an inhospitable area, with a continuous winter that is home to both the Frostwolf Clan and the Thunderlords.

It will be the first area we will meet, yes we are horde, after our escape from the Iron Horde in the Tanaan Jungle.

We will arrive at Frostfire Ridge accompanied by Thrall, Drek'thar and Ga'nar. Drek'thar will be in charge of introducing us to Durotan, head of the Frostwolf clan.

We will go through a large part of its extension to complete the chain of missions that will advance us in history and will also serve as an enclave area for our Horde Citadel, will be Thrall himself who will guide us in its construction and will serve as our base of operations in Draenor.

Durotan distrusts Thrall for having green skin, which makes Drek'thar know since he is blind, it is Drek'thar himself who speaks on his behalf and we are welcome to the home of the Frostwolves.

Although in principle it is an area for level 90-92, we will also find missions when we reach 94 and finally 100.

History

Thrall actually is the unborn child of Durotan in this timeline but, he never lets her know, so we will also experience an exciting family conflict.

The Frostwolf clan, unlike other clans, has challenged the iron horde and has refused to join their ranks, but their situation is somewhat delicate. They are surrounded by enemiesOn the one hand the slave ogres of the Sharp Spire Fortress and on the other hand, the beastmasters of the Thunderlord clan who, eager to prove their worth in the fight against the Iron Horde, will try to destroy the Frostwolf clan.

The Frostwolf clan's priority is to fight the ogres, but Durotan's older brother, Ga'nar, is ahead of Durotan's orders due to his impulsive nature. Once the clan's forces are gathered, they prepare to attack Bladespire, a massive fortress located north of Frostfire Ridge. They undertake the journey, leaving Draka, Durotan's wife, and the rest of the women and elders of the clan in the village to defend it. Arriving at the Aguja del Filo fortress, Ga'nar has already made his entrance. Thrall helps with his elemental power in the fight, but he notices that his elemental power is depleted on Draenor.

Chief Durotan

Chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan "Durotan"

As the Frostwolf clan slays the ogres in Bladespire, the enemy clan "Thunderlord" Take the opportunity to attack Wor'Gol, settlement of the Frostwolf clan. Upon receiving the news, Durotan and his clan return to defend the village. During the fight, Drek'thar is about to be killed. It is then that Drek'thar gives us a vision in which the Frostwolf clan had been devastated, showing the importance of the threat of the Iron Horde.

To win, disobeying his brother and head of the Durotan clan, launches the attack against the Lords of Thunder, since they had also been the culprits of his kidnapping by the Iron Horde. Again Durotan, along with a part of his clan, go after Ga'nar and together they discover that the head of the Thunderlords clan is nothing more and nothing less than his older brother. Together, they defeat him and receive his message, the Iron Horde is closing in.

There is a confrontation between the two brothers, in which Durotan lets Ga'nar know that his attitude is not being the correct one and that he must look out for the whole of the destiny of his clan. It is clear that the Iron Horde is approaching and only together can they stop its advance.

In the final phase of the story, while Drek'thar summons the elements to block the path of the Iron Horde, advancing through a narrow gorge, at last Ga'nar makes Durotan stay with his people and sacrifices himself earned long enough for Drek'thar to succeed. This is how Ga'nar redeems himself from all his impulsive actions and finally recognizes his brother Durotan as Warchief of the Frostwolf Clan.

Fauna and Flora

Frostfire Ridge is an area of  snowy wastelands and constantly erupting volcanoes. Adorned by frozen lakes and mountains of volcanic rock that will give way to the Blade's Edge Mountains in the future.

Frostfire Ridge

We can find flying rylaks, clefthoofs, boars and even gronns, all of them hunted and tamed by the Thunderlords, whose homes are the bones of the great colossi, giants that inhabited these lands in the past.

Some of the prominent locations are the "Cracked Plains", east of Frostfire Ridge. It is a large frozen lake surrounded by giants and beasts of all kinds. Here you can see gronn walking through the ice, magnaron in open ground, and goren scavengers.

What can we find

In Frostfire Ridge is the entrance to the dungeon Bloodmaul Mines in which the Bloodmaul Ogres are running a mining operation under the sweltering heat of active volcanic caves. Slaves from all over Draenor are transported to the mines never to leave again.

In the Bloodmaul Mines we will have to face, before reaching the final boss Gug'rokk, Magmolatus, Slave Keeper Crushto, and Rolthall. When we defeat the slave guard Crushto, we can free a very special one, Croman, who will follow us after the successful end of the stay.

Curiosities

worm

Shui halad

Among the long list of rares that we can find in Frostfire Ridge there is one that players have shown special interest in, Nok KaroshThis is an elite 102 that is quite difficult to defeat, but if we succeed, it will surely give a mount, Gran's Night Howler.

As a proper curiosity we can find a worm buried in Frostfire Ridge called Shui Halad, nod to the sandworms called "Shai Hulud", from the novel "Dune" by Frank Herbert.
