Diving through the Forums: Group Finder

Group Finder

During Mists of Pandaria patch 5,4, thousands of players made use of the oQueue, an adoms that facilitated the task of finding a group with players from other servers and regions for any purpose we can imagine. From the traditional bands of 10 and 25 of then, to missions or ancient achievements, passing of course through arenas and Bgs.

According to Blizzard,

Using oQueue does not violate the terms of service.

Over the course of patch 5.4.2, Blizzard began releasing new features in the same vein, such as the cross-kingdoms functionality that was added to the Raid Finder. During Blizzcon 2013, many clues were revealed about the novelties that Warlords of Draenor would bring, one of them was the Group Finder.

Group Finder

The Group Finder 6.0 will allow you to find or create groups for basically any content you can imagine, be it raids, dungeons, PvP, missions ...

Many players at the time compared the Group Finder to the adoms oQueue, and it is a logical comparison since they have the same functionality, although with some differences. In the Group Finder the connection is made only with Spanish kingdoms, while with Oqueue the connection was made between players from the entire region and consequently, different nationalities and languages.

If we rely on some Blue statements, it is clear that the design of the Group Finder operation is directly related to that of the aforementioned adoms oQueue.

We have been delighted to see how people have used oQueue to find organized groups, especially in 5.4, and we think that this is the kind of thing that the game should provide to players. We are not trying to kill oQueue, in fact many of us use it. We simply believe that inter-kingdom groups should be part of the original game.

So far everything is correct, oQueue stopped working and players switched to Group Finder. For quite some time, hundreds of threads have been opened in the official forums in relation to this matter. There are many positive and negative opinions and even complaints themselves, which have been expressed in these threads. In fact, the concern or feeling of being unwell on the part of the players is increasing lately; and it is that after the recent news of loss of subscriptions and bans some are already getting worse.

It is true that the game has lost several million subscribers, but according to Blizzard the benefits of the company are maintained, which makes us think that many of those canceled subscriptions are only temporary or simply a change of payment method. Keep in mind that we are still more than seven million active accounts and I believe that it is not necessary to put on the worst.

So much so that Arendeliun, Community Manager of World of Warcraft, has responded in the official forum to one of these threads:

As I mentioned in previous threads on the subject, your feedback on the Search group tool and its functionalities has been passed on several occasions to the development team since they are in charge of evaluating what changes to make in said tool. The fact that there are no blue responses in a thread does not mean that the feedback that is given in it is not read or that the feedback is not recorded.

About the Find Group tool, I want to highlight something that Incubia just said

Posted by Incubia: but of all those who have sincerely posted here and without any kind of bad news, who has tried to create a group with the current search engine? Or we just (I include myself) to click the button and say! @ # $ r nothing is ever created.

The feedback received on this tool from other communities has been very positive and the negative feedback comes mostly from the Spanish community (as can be seen in this same thread). Keep in mind that the operation of the tool is based on the number of people who use it. If no one uses the tool, there will be no groups available. The Spanish community has enough players to ensure that the tool works well, but it is necessary for people to collaborate and use it.

There is a lot of talk about OQueue in these types of threads, but keep in mind that addons are external programs from Blizzard and that the company may make changes to the game that may affect those programs. Is it the responsibility of the company? No, as it is not responsible for such programs and when a change is made to the game it is made with the intention of improving the gaming experience of the global community of World of Warcraft players.

Well, this publication more than calming the spirits what it has done is to provoke many more comments, Of course! Although it is true that many have been agreeing with Blue.

For now it seems clear that Blizzard is not going to make a move in this, so that those players who regularly cannot comply with the usual schedule of conventional raids, will have to continue using the Group search engine.

It is clear that the Spanish community is as valid as any otherBut suffice it to say or think about it, we must do something about it. There are even comments in which players take stock of the number of events that can be found active at the same time on an English and a Spanish server. This should make us reconsider and ask why? Is it possible that by now we have not fully understood what the Group Finder tool consists of?

It is totally understandable that players use the official forums to express our bad being or any other opinion; but we must realize that the answers that the Blues transmit to us are usually based on data that we individually do not know.

Summarizing, if we do our part and take the initiative from time to time, we will make the situation improve for everyone.
