Survival Hunter - Patch 8.0.1 - PvE Guide

Hunter survival

Hello guys. Today I bring you a guide on Survival Hunter in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth. Everything you need to enjoy this class and carry out your battles successfully.

Hunter survival

From an early age, the call of the wild draws some adventurers from the comfort of their homes into the unforgiving primal world. Those who endure become hunters. Masters of their environment, they are capable of sneaking like ghosts through the trees and setting traps in the path of their enemies. Hunters are also extremely agile and are able to avoid or slow down their enemies to regain their advantage in battle.

In this guide we will talk about Survival Hunter talents, skills, and rotation in Patch 8.0.1. As I always tell you in all my guides, this is an orientation on how you can take a survival Hunter and get performance, but with the use of his character each player acquires the skill and way of playing appropriate to him and decides at all times what talents and skills to use. No guide is to the letter, but if you start now with your new Survival Hunter or are somewhat lost, this guide will come in handy. ;).
I also have to tell you that all this can change at any time both on my part and because some talents or abilities change throughout the expansion. If that happens, I will keep you posted.

Talents

Although I am still adjusting to the changes we have had, here is the build of the talents that I will use with my Survival Hunter during patch 8.0.1. Anyway, at the moment we have a lot of ease to be able to change talents depending on the boss we are going to face, so if one of them is not to your liking, you can try any other that you think may be better for you.

I also leave you a link to another of our guides where you can see the changes we have had since Legion.

  • 15 level: Viper venom
  • 30 level: Guerrilla Tactics / Hydra Bite
  • 45 level: Natural relief
  • 60 level: Bloodseeker
  • 75 level: Born to be Wild / Immediacy
  • 90 level: Mongoose Bite / Spearhead
  • 100 level: Birds of Prey / Wildfire Infusion

Level One

  • Viper venom: Raptor Strike has a chance to cause your next Serpent Sting to cost no focus and deal 250% more initial damage.
  • Rules of intervention: Harpoon deals (50% of Attack power) points of physical damage and generates 20 focus points over 10 seconds. Harpoon's cooldown is reset when killing an enemy.
  • Alpha predator: Kill now has 2 charges and deals 30% more damage.

I have chosen Viper venom because it is the one that does the most damage and convinces me of the three for any encounter.

Level One

  • Guerrilla tactics: Wildfire Bomb now has 2 charges and the initial explosion deals 100% more damage.
  • Hydra bite: Snake Sting shoots arrows at 2 extra enemies near your target and their damage over time is increased by 10%.
  • Butcher shop: Shake off all nearby enemies with a barrage of blows, dealing (80% of Attack Power) points of Physical damage to each. Reduces the remaining cooldown on Wildfire Bomb by 1 second for each target hit, up to 5.

This time I have chosen Guerrilla tactics for single-target encounters and Hydra bite against more targets.

Level One

  • Burns: Your movement speed will increase by 30% when you have not been attacked for 3 seconds.
  • Natural relief: Every 20 focus points you spend reduces the remaining cooldown of Arousal by 1 second.
  • Camouflage: You and your pet blend into the environment and gain stealth for 1 minute. While cloaked, you heal for 2% of maximum health every 1 second.

Here I choose Natural relief which is the one that most convinces me of the three talents to choose from.

Level One

  • Bloodseeker: Your Kill ability causes the target to bleed and takes [Attack power * (0.1) * (4)] points of damage over 8 seconds. You and your pet gain 10% attack speed for each bleeding enemy within 12 yards.
  • Steel trap: Throw a steel trap at the target location, immobilizing the first enemy to approach for 20 seconds, dealing (120% of Attack power) bleed damage for 20 seconds. Other damage can cancel the immobilization effect. The trap lasts 1 minute. Limit: 1.
  • Flock of crows: Summons a flock of crows that attack your target, dealing [(23% of Attack power) * 16] points of physical damage over 15 seconds. If the target dies during the attack, the cooldown of Flock of Crows is reset.

This time I have chosen Bloodseeker as it works very well in both single-target and multi-target encounters.

Level One

  • Born to be Wild: Reduces the cooldowns of Aspect of the Eagle, Aspect of the Cheetah, and Aspect of the Turtle by 20%.
  • Immediacy: Separation also frees you from all movement impairing effects and increases your movement speed by 50% for 4 sec.
  • Binding shot: Separation also frees you from all movement impairing effects and increases your movement speed by 50% for 4 sec.

Here I usually use Born to be Wild When it's just a goal and I usually change it to Immediacy when there are more targets since it gives me a lot of movement. Nor do I rule out using Binding shot in some encounters in which we must have enemies under control.

Level One

  • Tip of the spear: Killing increases the damage of your next Raptor Strike by 20%. It stacks up to 3 times.
  • Mongoose bite: A brutal attack that deals (90% of Attack power) points of physical damage and grants you Mongoose Fury.
    • Mongoose Fury: Increases Mongoose Bite damage by 15% for 14 seconds. It accumulates up to 5 times. Successive attacks do not increase duration.
  • Flank strike: You and your pet jump towards the target and hit it at the same time, inflicting a total of [(Attack Power * 1.17 * (1 + Versatility)) + ((117% Attack Power))] points of Physical damage.

Here I choose Mongoose bite in single-target encounters and switch it to Tip of the spear when it comes to multi-purpose encounters.

Level One

  • Birds of prey: Attack your pet's target with Mongoose Bite, Raptor Strike, or Carnage. Carving increases the duration of Coordinated Attack by 1.5 seconds.
  • Wild fire infusion: Alter your Wildfire Bomb with bonus components that randomly grant it one of the following buffs each time you throw it:
    • Shrapnel Bomb: Targets are struck by shrapnel, causing Mongoose Bite, Raptor Strike, Carnage, and Carve to bleed for 9 seconds, stacking up to 3 times.
    • Pheromone Bomb: Kill has a 100% chance to reset against targets covered in pheromones.
    • Volatile Bomb: Reacts violently with poison, causing an extra explosion against enemies affected by your Snake Sting and resetting the duration of your Snake Stings.
  • Chakrams: Throw a pair of chakrams at your target, slashing all enemies in their path, dealing [(40% of Attack Power)] physical damage. Afterward, the chakrams come back to you and damage enemies again. Your main target takes 100% more damage.

This time I usually use the talent Birds of prey in single-goal encounters and talent Wild fire infusion if it is about encounters with several objectives.

Runes

Rotation and practical tips

An objective

Various objectives

Here we must take into account that if we have chosen the talent Wild fire infusion, every time we launch Wildfire bomb after the first one that will be the Shrapnel bomb, we will get a different bomb randomly with which we must be attentive to the rotation to use the appropriate skill depending on the bomb we have at that time.

If we have active Volatile bomb we will have to be vigilant as it restarts Snake bite.

If we have active Shrapnel bomb we will use Carve y Raptor strike.

If the one we have active is the Pheromone pump, Matar it will restart automatically.

For the rest we must always have active Snake bite y Matar to generate focus. If we have chosen the talent Guerrilla tactics, we will also use Volatile bomb as long as we have it on CD.
