After 4.0.1 ... What will become of my Death Knight?

death-knight-frost

Let's continue looking at the classes that play, this time I will try one that will receive many changes. A class, above all very polite, a true gentleman. Yes, today it is the Death Knight (bad joke, the complaints in the comments xD).

Well, the Death Knight will change a lot, since the branches other than Blood will not be viable for tanking, not like until now that with any branch you could tank to a greater or lesser extent. The Frost and Unholy branches will continue with their current dps characteristics. Frost with two one-handed weapons and Unholy with a large two-handed weapon.

Before looking at the changes that there are, it is convenient to remember a small change that is going to be with the runes and runic power. After patch 4.0.1, the runes they will not recharge simultaneously, but first one of the two will be recharged and then the other in case we have used them up. This may seem like a worsening in the class, but I was surprised to see that the feedback from people who often use this class are in favor of this change. I would like to give you my opinion, but I don't usually use this class much, it's still level 72, so I can't have much real idea. Now, let's see what changes there are.

Frost DPS Death Knight Guide

The Death Knight in his Frost branch had never been a proficient DPS. As a tank he had options (although few) but as a DPS he rarely managed to catch up with other DPS. Blizzard changed this situation when it introduced a new talent, Thassarian Threat, from there the use of the Frost DPS CoM began to take off, but not quite yet.

The arrival of patch 3.3.3 and improvements in Icy claws, y Nerves of frozen steel They have placed the frost branch in an almost dominant position in the use of CoM DPS.

For the DK DPS Frost we will use this branch, 0/53/18, there has been much discussion about whether to put more points in Black ice y Chill of the Grave to the detriment of Blade Bathed in Blood, but the math shows that with current armor penetration and going 1-handed alongside raid haste, Blade Bathed in Blood is superior to having the full points in Black ice y Chill of the Grave.

Guiaswow Answer: What attributes have preference for a CdlM DPS?

Some time ago, we inaugurated a section on the web to answer the doubts of the users that arise.

The idea is that you, send us your questions through your comments or your emails to webmaster @guiaswow.com and we will try to answer one question a week. The question may be about whatever worries you about World of Warcraft, the best quest addon, where the Time Lost Proto-Drake is located, anything.

It's been a long time since the last question, but today we received an email asking us the following question:

Hi very good,

My name is Dani and I have been reading you for some time (not really xD), I have a Death Knight and I would like to raise a topic: Force, Armor penetration or both? when making dps regardless of the build you use.

What I mean is: which of the two stats improves the damage I do to a boss per point the most? better hit a major hit or a minor hit and ignore some of the boss mitigation

I have not been trying with the two separately and with both and I do not know which to choose, I would say that it is better to increase the strength but I could not assure you, can you give me a hand?

Thank you very much and best regards.

We hope that you will be encouraged to send new questions that will surely help more than one.

Our expert on Death Knights, Gaza, answers Dani's question.

Class Advancement in Cataclysm: Death Knight

As we expected, we already have the first preview of the changes that will be made to the class Death Knight en Cataclysm. These changes are those published by Blizzard and make the class designers' intentions regarding this class quite clear. Note that these changes are preliminary and things can (and will) change during the Beta phase of Cataclysm.

In addition, I recommend you visit this article regularly as we will update it as more information about the Death Knights appears. They usually answer user questions to clarify or reveal a few more things.

These are the most significant changes of the class:

  • Outbreak (available at level 81): Outbreak will infect the target with Frost Fever and Blood Plague at no runic cost;
  • Necrotic Strike (level 83): Necrotic Strike is a new attack that will deal damage and apply an effect that will absorb an amount of healing based on the amount of damage dealt by the CoM;
  • Dark Simulacrum (level 85): The death knight will attack his target and apply an effect that allows him to create a copy of the next spell his opponent casts, allowing the CdlM to cast that same spell.
  • Mastery Bonus - Healing Absorption: When they heal themselves they will receive an additional effect that will absorb damage.

You can find the rest of the information after the jump.

Unholy DPS Death Knight Guide

The Death Knight in its Unholy branch has received a lot of changes since the expansion came out, perhaps it is the branch that has changed the most. This branch has always been characterized by a talent, Ebon Plaguebringer It increases the damage of diseases by 30% and, above all, the 13% magic damage that no other class can offer with the ease that a Death Knight does to both one target and several at once.

banner_guide_dk_profane_dps

And why profane?

Simply because it is the best. But there is a more reasoned why. This branch provides excellent and sustainable DPS to a target, is almost insurmountable in area damage, brings unique benefits to the raid, and has great survivability.

Dual talents for Death Knight

dk ams Since Patch 3.1 is right around the corner, it's a good time to start talking about dual talents and each of their classes. Specifically today we are going to deal with the Death Knight.

Surely they have more luck than the rest of the classes since each branch of talents is quite useful both for DPS or Tanking but, in the same way, some branches are better than others for certain roles and surely you want to have the best talents for Do your job. Some Death Knights have been experimenting with hybrid DPS / Tank talents but now that dual talents are arriving, it's best to dedicate the talents to a specific role and then switch if we want to do something else.

We have 3 main paths to cover: Tank / PvE DPS, Tank / PvP DPS and PvE DPS / PvP DPS depending on the interest. The hard part is knowing which combination is right for you and your brotherhood and which branch to focus on.
